Job description

Role Overview

The Safety Officer is tasked with ensuring adherence to Health, Safety, and Environmental (HSE) protocols across operations. This role emphasizes proactive risk mitigation to prevent workplace incidents, road traffic accidents, and operational hazards. It involves routine safety evaluations, incident investigation, employee engagement, and ensuring compliance with relevant regulations, including oversight of driver wellness and fatigue management.

Key Duties

  • Ensure strict compliance with organizational HSE policies, procedures, standards, and legal obligations.
  • Perform regular audits, inspections, and safety observations to detect risks, unsafe behaviors, and non-compliance, followed by prompt corrective measures.
  • Oversee fleet activities, vehicle logistics, loading/unloading processes, and driver adherence to road safety and defensive driving protocols.
  • Inspect all facilities regularly to assure operational safety and readiness.
  • Maintain vigilance over CNG operational practices, process safety requirements, and emergency response procedures.
  • Engage in hazard identification, conduct risk assessments and Job Hazard Analysis, and apply risk control strategies.
  • Assess driver fitness, ensuring compliance with work-rest schedules, and identify fatigue-related risks during safety checks.
  • Investigate accidents, incidents, near misses, and unsafe events; document findings and supervise completion of corrective actions.
  • Conduct safety orientations, toolbox meetings, driver engagement sessions, and awareness initiatives to foster a safety-focused culture.
  • Support emergency preparedness activities, including drills and operational response exercises.
  • Monitor housekeeping, environmental compliance, waste disposal, and pollution control efforts.
  • Maintain comprehensive HSE documentation, generate periodic reports, and assist with audits, regulatory visits, and certification processes.
  • Supervise contractor and third-party compliance with company HSSE standards and best industry practices.

Educational & Professional Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science or a related field.
  • Preferred certifications include NEBOSH International General Certificate (IGC), IOSH Managing Safely or equivalent, ISPON membership/certification, and HSE Level I-III certifications.
  • Additional certifications beneficial include Fire Safety, Defensive Driving, Incident Investigation, or CNG Operations Safety.

Experience Requirements

  • At least 2 years of pertinent HSE experience in sectors such as logistics, transportation, manufacturing, oil & gas, fleet management, or CNG facility operations.
  • Proven track record in performing safety inspections, incident investigations, risk assessments, and compliance oversight.
  • Experience managing transportation safety programs and working in high-risk settings is highly favorable.
