Job Overview

The Safety Officer will implement and oversee Health, Safety and Environment (HSE) standards throughout project activities, ensuring safe execution of all site operations in line with statutory regulations, client policies, and internal HSE management protocols.

Key Responsibilities

  • Apply and manage the company’s HSE management system on project sites.
  • Ensure compliance with local regulations such as the Factories Act, BOCW Act, Environment Act, and Pollution Control norms.
  • Monitor validity and adherence to work permits including hot work, confined space, height work, and electrical isolation.
  • Enforce HSE standards for subcontractors aligned with company and client requirements.
  • Conduct Job Safety Analysis (JSA) and Hazard Identification and Risk Assessments (HIRA) for critical and routine tasks.
  • Recognize hazards related to mechanical, piping, and electrical operations and recommend corrective measures.
  • Perform daily site inspections, reporting unsafe practices and conditions promptly.
  • Supervise safe storage, handling, and usage of chemicals and hazardous substances.
  • Oversee activities involving confined space entry, tank cleaning, chemical dosing, and commissioning.
  • Lead or support investigations of incidents and near misses, determine root causes, and ensure timely corrective actions.
  • Maintain comprehensive HSE incident records and compile monthly safety performance reports.
  • Deliver HSE induction sessions, daily toolbox talks, and targeted safety briefings.
  • Organize ongoing awareness initiatives on PPE compliance, chemical handling, and emergency procedures.
  • Collaborate with client HSE teams, consultants, and subcontractors for compliance verification and audits.
  • Participate in weekly HSE review meetings, providing status updates and progress reports.
  • Prepare and submit daily, weekly, and monthly HSE reports and data analytics.
  • Ensure availability and functionality of firefighting equipment, first aid stations, and spill control measures.
  • Conduct regular emergency drills to test site readiness and refine response plans.
  • Develop and update emergency response procedures specific to site requirements.

Required Qualifications and Experience

  • Diploma or Degree in Engineering.
  • Advanced Diploma in Industrial Safety accredited by State Technical Board, RLI, CLI, or DGFASLI.
  • Minimum 5 to 10 years of experience in HSE roles within EPC or construction projects involving ETP, WTP, STP, ZLD, or UPW system installations.
  • Knowledge of ISO 45001 and ISO 14001 standards is preferred.
  • Proficiency in report writing and Microsoft Office suite.
  • This position is contract-based and requires site presence in Gujarat, Karnataka, or Tamil Nadu.
