Position Overview

The Safety Manager leads the strategic and operational management of safety, security, emergency preparedness, and risk mitigation throughout Damien Center's programs and facilities. This role functions as a liaison with law enforcement and emergency responders and supports daily safety functions including physical security and organizational readiness. Responsibilities include chairing the Health & Safety Committee, managing the Safety Warden program, and spearheading life and fire safety initiatives.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop, implement, and annually review comprehensive safety, security, emergency preparedness, workplace violence prevention, and weather response plans grounded in trauma-informed approaches.
  • Collaborate across clinical and nonclinical teams to tailor safety protocols for diverse programs such as medical, dental, behavioral health, pharmacy, housing, harm reduction, and food security.
  • Conduct risk assessments in higher-risk areas and establish trauma-informed safety measures.
  • Maintain up-to-date safety documentation including Safety Data Sheets, drill logs, emergency signage, and training records.

  • Oversee contract security personnel, access control, surveillance, and security infrastructure management, liaising with IT, HR, law enforcement, and emergency services.
  • Supervise Safety Specialist(s), backup coverage provision, and oversee vehicle safety and compliance.
  • Coordinate with compliance managers on regulatory adherence and handle incident reporting, investigations, and accountability processes.

Required Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • At least five years of experience in safety, facility safety, or risk management.
  • American Red Cross BLS Instructor certification or willingness to obtain within six months.
  • OSHA 30-Hour General Industry or Healthcare certification or willingness to obtain within twelve months.
