Research Analyst - Economics and Data

About the Role

We seek a Research Analyst proficient in economics and statistics to join a compact, high-impact team. Collaborating closely with senior analysts and managing directors, you will gather, model, and forecast economic and sector-specific datasets that support our unique advertising market intelligence services. This role deviates from standard financial services positions, focusing instead on working with governmental data across nations to build extensive Excel-based datasets and quarterly forecasts while producing concise, insightful analytical reports.

Key Responsibilities

• Collect and structure historical economic and industry data from international government agencies including Statistics Canada, BLS, Eurostat, and others.
• Develop, sustain, and update large-scale Excel datasets and forecasting tools related to media types, advertising markets, and macroeconomic variables.
• Deliver quarterly and on-demand forecasts on various economy-wide and sectoral subjects such as retail sales, automotive volumes, digital advertising expenditures, and GDP components.
• Compose succinct analytical summaries interpreting data trends for senior leadership and customer presentations.
• Keep abreast of new data releases from governments, NGOs, trade bodies, and industry associations across over ten global markets.
• Create and document standardized methods for data collection, normalization, and cross-country comparisons.
• Perform quality checks on datasets, troubleshooting inconsistencies, gaps, and anomalies.
• Assist in client-related research products by preparing visual data exhibits and tables for quarterly reports.
• Investigate and assess new data sources as the company grows coverage from ten to fifty global markets.
• Work with senior leadership to refine forecasting techniques and address specific client questions.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree or higher in Economics, Statistics, Econometrics, or a related quantitative discipline.
• Between 3 and 6 years of relevant experience in economic research, data analytics, or applied forecasting.
• Comprehensive knowledge of government and institutional data sources and underlying methodologies.
• Expertise in Excel, particularly with pivot tables, complex formulas, and handling datasets exceeding 50,000 rows.
• Excellent written communication skills capable of generating clear, publication-quality summaries under tight deadlines.
• Proven capability to deliver fast and accurate results within stringent timelines.
• Experience with advertising, media, or technology industry datasets is desired.
• Familiarity with programming or scripting languages such as Python, R, or SQL for data processing beyond Excel.
• Progress or completion toward a CFA qualification is preferred.
• Practical experience producing commercial forecasting reports is advantageous.
• Acquaintance with data from multiple countries is beneficial.
• French fluency (verbal and written) is a plus to support expansion in Francophone markets, including potential Montreal operations.
• Additional language skills relevant to target markets are a bonus.
