Registered Nurse - Operating Room

Job Overview

We are seeking a Registered Nurse specialized in the Operating Room (OR) to provide comprehensive patient care throughout the preoperative, intraoperative, and postoperative phases within a surgical setting. This role operates under the supervision of the Clinical Services Supervisor to ensure the delivery of quality nursing care adhering to established standards.

Key Responsibilities

• Perform patient assessments, including physiological and psychosocial evaluation, and document appropriately.
• Develop nursing diagnoses and care plans tailored to patient and family needs.
• Implement and adjust nursing interventions, responding effectively to emergencies.
• Ensure proper surgical site identification and marking, surgical case documentation, and aseptic technique compliance.
• Coordinate with surgical teams anticipating surgeon requirements during procedures.
• Maintain clear communication and information reporting to support continuity of care.
• Engage in professional nursing organizations for continuous development.

Qualifications and Certifications

• Graduate from an accredited nursing program.
• Current Registered Nurse License.
• Valid American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certifications.

Skills and Knowledge

• Comprehensive knowledge of nursing standards, including Patient Bill of Rights, JCAHO regulations, and Nurse Practice Act.
• Ability to assess patient pain levels and complete thorough histories.
• Strong documentation skills with legible and timely record keeping.
• Proficient in legal and ethical nursing practices.
• Capability to provide safe, accountable care demonstrating flexibility and sound judgment.

Physical Requirements

• Ability to stand and walk extensively (66-100% of work time).
• Capability to lift up to 50 lbs as necessary and assist with pushing loads up to 400 lbs with help.
• Perform physical activities such as climbing stairs, bending, squatting, kneeling, and reaching overhead during patient care.
• Must possess adequate visual and auditory senses for patient care.

Working Environment

• Primarily indoor work environment (95-100%).
• Exposure to occasional fumes, dust, odors, mist, radiation, noise, and vibrations from medical equipment.
• Potential contact with communicable diseases and electrical equipment hazards.
• Use of personal protective equipment such as gowns, gloves, masks, and head cover provided.
