About the Role

We are seeking a dedicated Ranger (Safety) to oversee and coordinate workplace health and safety (WHS) activities, as well as training initiatives, within the Wildlife and Threatened Species Operations Branch and Gateway Visitor Centres in South East Queensland. This position involves delivering expert support and advice to ensure safe workplaces across diverse operational settings.

Key Responsibilities

The successful candidate will lead WHS functions ensuring compliance with legislation, regulations, and Codes of Practice. You will collaborate closely with management and staff to develop, implement, and review safety policies, procedures, and systems that promote a culture of safety and continuous improvement. Your duties will include managing hazardous chemical controls, overseeing risk registers, conducting workplace assessments, and compiling safety compliance reports. You will be responsible for coordinating and monitoring mandatory training programs to keep staff certifications—such as First Aid, fire safety, chainsaw operation, and other compliance training—up to date. Additional responsibilities include supporting incident investigation processes, leading safety audits and corrective actions, analyzing safety trends, and recommending improvements to minimize risks and boost organizational safety capabilities.

Requirements and Skills

The ideal candidate will have proven expertise managing WHS systems, alongside a strong understanding of relevant legislation, policies, and safety Codes of Practice. Competence in risk management, incident reporting, auditing, workplace assessments, and hazardous chemical management is required.
