Role Summary
This is a full-time, on-site Purchasing Manager position in Toowoomba City, QLD. The role is responsible for managing the procurement of materials, parts, and services needed for the manufacture, repair, and maintenance of heavy haulage trailers and equipment. It requires close coordination with production, workshop, and management teams to keep supplies moving efficiently, control costs, and support scheduled work.
Key Duties
- Find, evaluate, and maintain relationships with suppliers for materials, components, and services.
- Negotiate prices, terms, and contracts to achieve strong value without compromising quality.
- Create, process, and monitor purchase orders from request through to delivery.
- Track stock levels and purchasing needs so production timelines are not disrupted.
- Follow up on delivery progress, handle supply delays or shortages, and work through issues quickly.
- Work closely with production, workshop, and leadership teams to align buying decisions with operational needs.
- Keep procurement records accurate and up to date.
- Monitor budgets and support cost control across purchasing activities.
- Contribute to ongoing improvements in procurement systems, processes, and supplier performance.
Qualifications and Experience
Applicants should have proven experience in purchasing or procurement, preferably in manufacturing, transport, or engineering settings. You should be confident in sourcing suppliers, negotiating agreements, managing inventory, and coordinating purchasing around production demand. Strong knowledge of purchasing or ERP systems, along with good Excel and general computer skills, is important. The position also calls for clear communication, strong relationships skills, high attention to detail, and solid time management. An understanding of safety, quality, and compliance requirements for heavy haulage or manufacturing environments is expected. A qualification in supply chain, procurement, business, or a similar area is preferred, though equivalent practical experience will also be considered. The role requires the ability to work on site in a workshop/manufacturing setting and contribute positively to a collaborative, improvement-oriented team.
