Role overview
FMG is seeking an experienced, customer-focused Product Manager to join a purpose-led organisation that supports the people and businesses of rural and provincial New Zealand. In this role, you will own the performance of assigned products or product groups, making sure they deliver against agreed targets for customer outcomes, regulatory obligations, operational efficiency, profitability, and innovation.
You will spot product risks, resolve issues, and identify improvement opportunities, then lead product changes through the business from concept to delivery. Working within the Product Development and Review Framework (PDARF), you will shape ideas into business cases, secure the needed support and resources, coordinate cross-functional impacts, and measure whether initiatives have delivered the intended results. A key part of the role is building product understanding across the organisation so teams clearly understand product intent and customer-focused enhancements continue to meet market expectations.
Vacancy details
This position is being recruited for 1 permanent vacancy and 2 fixed-term vacancies with a 24-month duration.
Key responsibilities
- Track product results throughout the lifecycle and ensure the product continues to deliver fair outcomes for clients.
- Spot areas where performance is below expectation and turn those into practical improvement actions and recommendations.
- Drive the full delivery process for product enhancements and new product initiatives using PDARF.
- Act as a subject matter resource for product information and interpretation across the business, including teams handling risk, compliance, and client resolution.
- Seek out ways to streamline, improve, and innovate products so they better serve customer and market needs.
About you
You are a seasoned product professional with deep experience in insurance or financial services, ideally backed by strong product and risk knowledge. You are customer-minded, comfortable balancing client outcomes, compliance requirements, and commercial results. You think critically, work well with data, and can translate insight into workable solutions. You build strong relationships easily, influence stakeholders effectively, and are confident leading product change and delivery initiatives across a complex environment.
Benefits and culture
FMG emphasizes a supportive, people-first culture and offers benefits designed to help employees feel valued and well supported. These include a 4% company contribution to superannuation, flexible working practices, five paid professional development days each year, two paid wellbeing days, and one paid give-back day annually, along with other appealing employee benefits.
Additional information
FMG is focused on people who are committed to helping build strong and prosperous rural communities. This role is ideal for someone who wants to contribute to meaningful change, work with a strong team, and be part of an organisation known for its positive culture.
