Product Development Scientist

About the Role

We are looking for a driven Product Development Associate to join a well-established brand in the nutrition and snack sector. Situated in Emeryville, CA, this role involves onsite presence 3-5 days each week. The position offers a unique chance for early-career food scientists or engineers to gain valuable experience in innovating, commercializing, enhancing quality, and supporting manufacturing of food products.

Key Responsibilities

• Contribute to new product innovations, product renovations, and commercialization efforts.
• Engage in product development processes from ideation through to execution phases.
• Prepare, test, and assess benchtop samples to support ongoing product development.
• Assist with managing inventory, including receiving and shipping of ingredients and samples.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to address and solve technical challenges.
• Investigate and resolve product quality issues by implementing corrective measures.
• Support initiatives aimed at business continuity, cost savings, and improving plant performance.
• Analyze technical data, interpret results thoroughly, and offer informed recommendations.
• Create and maintain process documentation to guarantee consistent quality across manufacturing sites.
• Effectively document project outcomes and communicate technical details clearly.

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Food Science, Chemical Engineering, Food Engineering, or a related scientific field.
• Between 1 to 3 years of experience in product development, food science, manufacturing, research and development, or a related area.
• Strong technical knowledge paired with enthusiasm for continuous learning and innovation.
• Ability to juggle multiple priorities, working effectively both independently and within teams.
• Excellent analytical and problem-solving capabilities.
• Proficient in written and verbal communication.
• Competence in interpreting technical data and translating insights into practical recommendations.
• Detail-oriented with excellent organizational skills.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience in food, beverage, nutrition, or consumer packaged goods industries.
• Familiarity with manufacturing workflows and product launch processes.
• Background in supporting initiatives to improve quality or optimize processes.
