About the company
Mogo Kenya is focused on expanding access to finance through a range of lending products, including boda-boda financing, car logbook loans, and smartphone loans. With a countrywide presence of more than 90 branches, the company serves communities that have historically had limited access to capital. It operates with the support of Eleving Group, an international fintech business with operations across Europe, Africa, and Asia, and is committed to advancing sustainable financial inclusion.
This role offers the chance to join a fast-moving team that values ownership, scale, and real-world impact. The work involves building financial products that can improve lives across East Africa.
Role overview
The Product Designer (UX/UI) will be part of the Africa team and will be responsible for shaping both customer-facing applications and internal tools. The position is highly hands-on and includes close collaboration with the product team on research, documentation, and design decisions. The designer will create interfaces used by customers and field agents across East Africa.
What you will do
Customer App design
- Take full ownership of the customer app experience on iOS and Android, covering everything from onboarding to repayment and self-service journeys.
- Develop new features and refine existing ones using user feedback, product analytics, and business priorities as inputs.
- Keep the interface consistent by working within a shared Figma component system.
- Partner with developers during handoff so the final build matches the intended design.
Sales App design
- Shape and maintain the sales app that field agents use to register customers and submit loan applications.
- Turn multi-step processes into simple, efficient screens that suit field-based work.
- Spot usability gaps through agent feedback and shadowing sessions, then convert those observations into design improvements.
- Work with product and operations teams to make sure the app aligns with how sales are actually carried out in each market.
ERP internal tools
- Design pages and workflows inside the ERP system for operations, collections, and customer service teams.
- Improve existing ERP screens by lowering the number of clicks, highlighting key information, and making processes easier to follow.
- Collaborate with internal stakeholders to understand daily tasks and turn them into practical interface requirements.
Documentation and customer research
- Prepare and update design documentation such as user flows, specifications, and handoff notes that developers can use directly.
- Plan and conduct customer research with the product team, including interviews, usability testing, and field observation.
- Turn research results into actionable insights that inform design choices.
- Maintain a shared knowledge base of customer learnings so insights are preserved across projects.
Requirements
- At least 2 to 3 years of relevant experience in product design.
- A university degree in a related discipline.
- A portfolio showing end-to-end product design work, user research, wireframing, and high-fidelity interface design is an added advantage.
- Strong communication, presentation, and stakeholder management abilities.
- Capability to produce clear design documentation, specifications, and user flows.
Key competencies
- Customer empathy and a strong user-first mindset.
- Analytical thinking and solid problem-solving ability.
- Sharp attention to detail and strong visual design sensibility.
- Comfort handling several priorities while working independently.
- Flexibility and teamwork in a fast-paced environment.
- Interest in designing simple, accessible, and meaningful financial products.
