Overview
His Majesty’s Prison and Probation Service is hiring prison officers for HMP Highpoint. This is a varied, high-responsibility role where you will help protect the public while supporting people in custody to turn their lives around. The position offers a salary between £35,746 and £40,003 and the chance to build a long-term career in a challenging but rewarding environment.
What the role involves
As a prison officer, no two days will feel the same. Depending on the situation, you may be acting as a calm presence, offering guidance, or supporting learning and rehabilitation activities. The work is fast-moving and requires sound judgement, resilience, and the confidence to handle different situations professionally.
Who this role suits
The service welcomes people from many different backgrounds, including parents, teachers, retail workers, and former armed forces personnel. What matters most is that you bring empathy, self-assurance, strong communication, integrity, and the ability to build respectful, constructive relationships with offenders, even when they are at a difficult point in their lives.
Team working and schedule
This role depends heavily on collaboration, so you must be committed to working closely with colleagues and acting as part of one team to keep the prison, prisoners, and staff safe. You will need to be available for varied shift patterns, including weekends.
Training, development, and rewards
You will receive strong training and development support, along with opportunities to progress and specialise in different areas over time. The package also includes 25 days of annual leave, childcare vouchers, season ticket loans, retail discounts, an Employee Assistance Programme, and a Cycle to Work scheme.
Why join
Beyond the salary and benefits, the role offers the satisfaction of helping someone get their life back on course while doing work that has a real public impact. It is a career that combines responsibility, variety, and the chance to make a meaningful difference every day.
How to apply
Applicants who feel they match the qualities required for this position should submit an application.
