Role Overview
This position sits within the Actuarial pricing team of a leading Lloyd’s insurer and is tailored for a student actuary specializing in general insurance. Prior experience in pricing teams is beneficial but not mandatory. The Pricing team collaborates closely with underwriters to provide case pricing assistance and develop pricing models that incorporate key claim activity drivers across different classes, enabling profitability assessment of accounts.
The Pricing Analyst will primarily focus on pricing, model development, and analytics for Chaucer’s Property, Political Violence, Political Risk, and Credit portfolios but may be involved in other classes and wider projects. Actuarial study support towards Institute and Faculty of Actuaries certification is included. This role is based in London within the Actuarial pricing team and reports to the Pricing Actuary responsible for the aforementioned divisions.
Main Responsibilities
- Gain detailed knowledge of Property, Political Violence, Political Risk, and Credit business lines, market trends, and underwriting strategies.
- Assist with account pricing and support underwriting negotiations with brokers.
- Monitor individual accounts and overall portfolio performance continuously.
- Provide innovative ideas for new management information (MI) reporting.
- Participate in model recalibration and reviews.
- Support the collection and maintenance of pricing-related data.
- Stay updated on industry developments, new pricing methods, visualization techniques, and best practices.
- Collaborate and share pricing insights with the wider Actuarial team.
- Contribute to other team activities as required.
Required Qualifications and Skills
- Experience in general insurance, with specific interest or exposure to Property, Political Violence, Political Risk, and Credit sectors preferred.
- Proficient IT skills, especially advanced Excel competence.
- Preferred knowledge of VBA, Python or R, and SQL.
- Educational background including a 2.1 or first-class degree in Mathematics or related fields like Physics, Engineering, or Statistics.
- At least three 'A' levels including Mathematics.
- Motivated to pursue IFoA exams and actuarial qualification.
