Role Overview

Wilson James is seeking a diligent Postroom Operative to join their team at the Culham Science Centre, Abingdon. This role is full-time, requiring work five days per week from 07:30 to 16:00. The position involves the accurate and timely handling, sorting, and delivery of mails and parcels on site, ensuring efficient operations within a busy postroom environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Receive, sort, and distribute incoming mail and parcels promptly within the site.
  • Manage all outgoing shipments, including packaging, courier coordination, and Royal Mail dispatch.
  • Maintain precise electronic and paper records for shipments to ensure comprehensive audit trails.
  • Monitor delivery statuses and provide tracking updates to customers and stakeholders as needed.
  • Collaborate closely with site tenants, customers, and colleagues to uphold correct shipping procedures.
  • Assist the Import/Export Officer with both operational and administrative tasks when required.
  • Keep post room equipment, documentation, and workspaces clean, organized, and well maintained.
  • Follow company policies, customer guidelines, and health & safety rules, delivering professional and effective service.

Candidate Profile

  • Experience in a customer-facing role, demonstrating strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Excellent organizational abilities, with meticulous attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Proficient in computer literacy and comfortable using electronic record-keeping systems.
  • Demonstrated commitment to outstanding customer service under operational pressures.
  • Ability to stay composed and adapt to shifting priorities effectively.
  • Reliable, punctual, and professional in appearance and conduct.
  • Capable of working well independently and as part of a team, always treating others respectfully.
  • Possession of a valid SIA Licence and a First Aid Qualification.
