Overview

South Australia Police (SAPOL) invites applications for the role of Police Cadet, offering a pathway to become a fully qualified police officer. This long-term contract opportunity involves intensive paid training at the SAPOL Academy in Taperoo, combining academic coursework in law, policies, and procedures with practical and physical training.

Role Benefits

Key Responsibilities

  • Prevent, detect, and investigate a variety of offenses, including street crime, family violence, traffic violations, and substance abuse.
  • Secure and examine crime scenes and traffic accident sites to collect and preserve evidence.
  • Maintain public safety through general patrols aimed at preventing disturbances and crime.
  • Investigate accidents, file reports, arrest and interview suspects as necessary.
  • Conduct roadside testing for alcohol and drugs and issue infringement notices for traffic offenses.
  • Manage traffic control in congested areas and attend community engagement events.
  • Provide assistance and advice to victims of crime and their families.
  • Prepare detailed records and reports, and represent SAPOL at court proceedings.

Candidate Qualifications and Requirements

  • Applicants must be at least 17 years old at the time of application.
  • Must hold Australian or New Zealand citizenship or permanent residency.
  • Fulfillment of medical, fitness, and psychometric standards is mandatory.
  • Willingness and ability to complete operational training and carry safety equipment including a firearm is required.

Additional Information

Applicants from rural or interstate areas can complete initial assessments remotely, with possible eligibility for cost-of-living allowances. Onsite academy housing may be available, subject to approval and availability.
