Using primarily UKG systems, you'll ensure timely and precise payroll and benefits administration.
Key Responsibilities
- Run bi-monthly payroll cycles using UKG Pro and Workforce Management, complying with relevant state wage and hour laws.
- Conduct audits to detect and resolve payroll errors prior to payroll completion.
- Address employee payroll questions and issues promptly.
- Manage payroll-related matters such as taxes, garnishments, and system configurations accurately.
- Assist managers with payroll inquiries including timecard approvals and UKG timekeeping problem resolution.
- Administer employee benefits including enrollments, life event changes, terminations, and carrier communications; act as the first point of contact for related inquiries.
- Keep accurate employee data in UKG, such as pay rates and tax withholding information.
- Support year-end processes like W-2 preparation, commission administration, and reconciliation.
- Oversee 401(k) plan support including reporting analysis, reconciliation, and compliance.
- Perform other business-driven tasks as assigned.
Expected Progression and Success Milestones
- Within 30 days: Complete UKG onboarding and process payroll with supervision, maintaining baseline accuracy.
- Within 60 days: Independently handle payroll with minimal oversight, including application of California-specific rules, proactively identifying issues.
- Within 90 days: Manage payroll end-to-end autonomously, accurately reconcile discrepancies and ensure compliance.
- Within 1 year: Consistently deliver error-free, timely payroll, propose UKG system improvements, and act as primary resource on California payroll.
Candidate Profile
- Minimum two years of experience processing full-cycle payroll.
- Proficient with UKG (UltiPro or UKG Pro), Kronos, or similar payroll/HRIS tools.
- Strong knowledge of California payroll regulations including overtime, meal/rest break policies, and final pay laws.
- Familiarity with federal payroll compliance including FLSA, taxing, and W-2 reporting.
- Skilled in Microsoft Excel or Google Sheets for data auditing and reconciliation.
- Detail-oriented with the ability to spot and correct payroll inaccuracies.
- Analytical thinker with effective problem-solving capabilities.
- Associate degree or higher in Accounting, Business, or related discipline, or equivalent experience.
- Experience with multi-state payroll preferred.

The annual salary for this position ranges from $68,000 to $80,000.
SonderMind supports employees with comprehensive benefits, including flexible hybrid work options, generous paid time off, free therapy coverage for those enrolled in our medical plans, competitive medical/dental/vision insurance with HSA and FSA plans, employer-paid disability and life insurance, paid parental leave, 401(k) with full matching up to 4% of salary, company holidays, annual in-person gatherings, and additional voluntary benefits like supplemental life, pet insurance, and commuter perks.
