About the Role
Join our Engineering Extremities department in Gainesville, FL, as a designer specializing in orthopedic implants, surgical instrumentation, and related components. Under guidance from senior engineering and design staff, you will create precise CAD models, technical drawings, prototypes, and generate design documentation essential for both new product development and sustaining engineering work.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop 3D CAD models, detailed drawings, and assemblies for implants and surgical instruments.
- Contribute to product development projects as well as sustaining engineering efforts.
- Apply geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T) standards and drafting best practices to engineering documentation.
- Engage in design reviews, incorporating feedback effectively and iterating designs as needed.
- Assist in prototype assessment and activities related to verifying design integrity.
- Conduct fundamental tolerance analyses and perform engineering calculations.
- Support manufacturing investigations and help resolve design-related nonconformance issues.
- Manage engineering change requests and revisions of drawings accurately.
- Ensure all designs comply with quality system requirements and applicable regulatory standards.
- Collaborate closely with teams in Engineering, Manufacturing, Regulatory Affairs, and Quality Assurance.
- Familiarize and conform to Quality System protocols and relevant Federal and International standards.
Required Skills and Expertise
- Mechanical design principles with a focus on total joint systems and manufacturing methodologies.
- Basic understanding of GD&T and drafting documentation standards according to ASME Y-14.5.
- Foundational knowledge of human factors, ergonomics, and industrial design concepts.
- Competence in Computer Aided Design (CAD) software usage.
- Effectiveness in communication and teamwork across technical and cross-functional teams.
Education and Experience
- Minimum high school diploma or GED required; associate's or bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution preferred.
- Equivalent relevant work experience may compensate for formal education.
- At least one year of drafting and/or design experience preferred; educational background can offset experience requirements.
