About the Role

The University of Auckland's University Health and Counselling Service (UHCS) provides high-quality healthcare and wellbeing support for students through a multidisciplinary team focused on exceptional care and student wellbeing. We are seeking a Medical Lead to provide clinical leadership and strategic guidance within UHCS, supporting primary healthcare delivery for a diverse student community.

Responsibilities

• Offer clinical leadership and mentoring to medical staff within UHCS
• Drive excellence in clinical practice, patient safety, and quality enhancement projects
• Support clinical governance and ensure compliance with standards and legislation
• Contribute to service planning, operational decisions, and strategic initiatives
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams including nursing, counselling, psychology, and administration
• Facilitate workforce development and professional growth for medical clinicians
• Maintain high standards of care through direct patient consultations
• Implement evidence-based healthcare practices
• Develop strong partnerships with internal stakeholders and external healthcare providers
• Encourage continuous improvement, innovation, and student-centered service delivery culture

Required Skills and Experience

• Current Medical Council of New Zealand registration with a practicing certificate
• Extensive experience in General Practice or primary healthcare settings
• Proven clinical leadership with mentoring capabilities
• Knowledge of clinical governance, quality improvement, and patient safety
• Effective communication and relationship-building skills
• Experience collaborating in multidisciplinary healthcare teams
• Commitment to culturally responsive care promoting equity in health outcomes

Desirable Qualifications

• Vocational registration in General Practice
• Experience with young adults or tertiary health services
• Background in leading quality improvement and healthcare innovation initiatives

The position is full-time, 37.5 hours per week, and permanent.
