Position Overview and Location

We invite applications for the role of M&E Assistant Cost Manager to be based in our Cork office. This position follows a hybrid working model under a permanent contract at the Officer grade level.

Key Qualifications and Skills

  • A degree (BSc or MSc) in Quantity Surveying, Cost Management, Building Services Engineering, or a related discipline.
  • Experience or understanding of diverse project types and sizes across sectors including Mission Critical, Healthcare, Education, Commercial, and Residential.
  • Knowledge of RIAI and GCCC standard forms of contract.
  • Ability to provide advice on procurement, cost, value management, and risk, particularly concerning M&E elements.
  • Demonstrated organizational and management strengths with a proactive, team-oriented mindset.
  • Strong reporting, communication, numeracy, and written/verbal skills.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Assist Senior Cost Manager in daily management of M&E facets of projects.
  • Support feasibility studies and prepare procurement reports focusing on M&E systems.
  • Engage in estimating, cost planning, and presenting final cost plans for M&E work.
  • Carry out full quantity measurements for mechanical and electrical components.
  • Manage tendering and procurement stages, including pre-qualification for M&E works.
  • Handle post-contract cost variances and change control for M&E projects.
  • Conduct timely and accurate cost checks and valuations on larger M&E projects.
  • Prepare and present monthly post-contract M&E cost reports to clients.
  • Participate in value engineering activities specific to M&E systems.
  • Negotiate and finalize accounts for M&E packages.
  • Interface with clients and other consultants at various project stages, emphasizing M&E-related elements.

About the Team

You will join the Construction Advisory Services team, a specialized division within KPMG that offers integrated services from project inception to completion. This growing team of approximately 50 members covers areas such as Project Management, Cost Consultancy, and Mechanical & Electrical Cost Management and Consulting.
