Position Overview
We are looking for a skilled Material Coordinator on a 12-month contract basis stationed onsite in Calgary, Alberta. This role is integral in supporting procurement and supply chain activities for major projects and operational efforts. The coordinator will oversee the procurement of materials and commodities, manage supplier relationships, and ensure the punctual delivery of essential materials to aid business functions.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead procurement tasks for assigned projects and various commodity categories that range in complexity.
- Initiate, organize, and manage sourcing events such as RFPs, RFQs, and RFIs.
- Perform bid analyses and commercial evaluations while collaborating with internal technical stakeholders.
- Negotiate supplier pricing, contract terms, and agreements.
- Act as the primary contact for purchase orders within designated categories.
- Develop and maintain strong relations with suppliers and internal teams.
- Source and manage suppliers for categories including interstate natural gas pipelines, valves, fittings, and other critical materials.
- Ensure procurement activities comply with policies and contractual obligations.
- Keep procurement and supplier documentation up to date within SAP.
- Review technical specifications, bills of materials, and project requirements to guide sourcing decisions.
- Identify and implement cost reduction measures, procedural improvements, and efficiencies in the supply chain.
- Monitor supplier performance, current market conditions, and sector trends.
- Offer strategic supplier and sourcing recommendations to business leadership.
- Proactively assess future supply chain needs through market analysis and collaboration across business units.
Candidate Profile
- Demonstrated experience in procurement, purchasing, material coordination, or supply chain functions within industrial, energy, oil and gas, or infrastructure settings.
- Proficient in supplier relationship management, sourcing operations, and commercial negotiations.
- Experienced in conducting and managing sourcing events such as RFPs and RFQs.
- Ability to evaluate bids, perform commercial analysis, and contribute to contract award decisions.
- Familiar with engineering specifications, bills of materials, and technical documentation.
- Strong skills in stakeholder engagement and cross-departmental collaboration.
- Excellent analytical, communication, and problem-solving capabilities.
- Track record of identifying cost-saving opportunities and driving continuous improvements.
- Highly organized with the capacity to handle multiple priorities in dynamic environments.
- Mandatory experience working with SAP in procurement or purchasing roles.
- Background in pipeline, natural gas, or large capital projects within energy infrastructure is advantageous.
