Job Overview

Based in Hamilton, Ontario, the Maintenance Millwright will report directly to the Maintenance Supervisor and is tasked with addressing maintenance needs across plant equipment and executing assigned construction and fabrication tasks. This includes supporting the installation, upkeep, troubleshooting, and repair of mechanical, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems within the Hamilton Crush and Edible Oils plants.

Position Details

  • Permanent full-time role with rotating shift schedule.
  • Shift times and schedules may be modified according to business demands, with possible overtime.
  • This is a unionized position under the United Food and Commercial Workers Union (UFCW) Local 175.
  • Hourly pay rate is $49.99.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Carry out preventive and corrective maintenance on machinery including conveyors, elevators, and pumps.
  • Troubleshoot and fix mechanical, hydraulic, and pneumatic equipment issues.
  • Operate forklifts to transport materials and equipment as needed.
  • Conduct welding and metal fabrication tasks when required.
  • Assist in training and mentoring newly hired maintenance personnel.
  • Participate in an on-call rotation, responding to maintenance requests outside regular hours approximately once every six weeks.
  • Ensure compliance with workplace safety protocols and maintain a safe working environment.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by management.

Skills and Qualifications

  • Must possess a current and valid Ontario 433A Industrial Mechanic Certificate of Qualification.
  • Red Seal endorsement as an Industrial Mechanic (Millwright) is preferred.
  • Canadian Welding Bureau (CWB) certifications are advantageous.
  • Familiarity with HACCP and Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) related to food safety is a plus.
  • 2 to 5 years of Millwright or Industrial Mechanic experience in industrial settings.
  • Experience working with and maintaining rotating equipment.
  • Capability to interpret shop drawings and engineering schematics.
  • Knowledge of predictive maintenance methods is beneficial.
  • Forklift operation skills are required.
  • Strong problem-solving abilities along with effective communication skills.
  • Ability to work both autonomously and collaboratively within a team environment.
  • Willingness to travel occasionally as required.

Physical and Work Environment Requirements

  • Able to lift weights up to 50 pounds.
  • Comfortable working in environments that may be hot, cold, dusty, greasy, and noisy.
  • Capacity to walk, stand, stoop, kneel, and climb ladders for extended durations.
  • Ability to safely work at heights and within confined spaces with appropriate permits and monitoring.
  • Required to wear personal protective equipment such as safety shoes, glasses, and hard hats.
  • Might need to use specialized PPE like fall protection and respiratory devices when necessary.
  • Must be available for overtime, weekend shifts, and on-call rotations.
