This role involves the daily upkeep and repair of the school's buildings and grounds, ensuring all facilities remain in optimal condition. The caretaker will manage both scheduled maintenance and urgent repairs, assist in event setups, and act as the first responder for any premises issues during school hours. Working closely with the Head of Operations and Health and Safety Officer, this role is integral to maintaining a safe and functional campus.

Main Duties

  • Inspect doors, fire exits, building fabric, fixtures, and fittings, promptly completing minor repairs.
  • Conduct basic checks and maintenance of mechanical and electrical systems such as heating, cooling, ventilation, and plumbing, and escalate issues requiring specialist intervention.
  • Maintain detailed logs of maintenance activities and outstanding concerns.
  • Handle daily opening and closing inspections, securing access points appropriately.
  • Test fire alarms, emergency lighting, and security systems on schedule and report faults to the Health and Safety Officer.
  • Identify and report health and safety risks discovered during premises inspections.
  • Assist with moving, storing, and setting up furniture and equipment for classes and events.
  • Supervise contractor access to the site, ensuring adherence to school protocols.
  • Support emergency evacuation procedures under the guidance of the Health and Safety Officer.
  • Organize storage areas and manage tools and materials, monitoring stock and requesting replenishments as needed.

Required Qualifications and Experience

  • Relevant trade qualification or technical training in areas such as plumbing, electrical work, carpentry, or general maintenance is desirable.
  • Safe Pass or equivalent site safety certification is preferred.
  • Manual handling certification is advantageous.
  • A full clean driving licence is desirable.
  • Essential experience includes proven work in building maintenance, caretaking or facilities management roles.
  • Experience performing minor repairs and maintenance across various building systems is required.
  • Previous work in schools, public sector organizations, or multi-occupancy buildings is an asset.
  • Experience collaborating with health and safety functions is beneficial.

Skills and Personal Qualities

  • Strong practical skills in building maintenance, minor repairs, and basic mechanical/electrical systems.
  • Good understanding of health and safety responsibilities relevant to premises, including knowledge of COSHH and manual handling.
  • Physical fitness sufficient to perform manual tasks such as lifting, carrying, and working safely at heights using appropriate equipment.
  • Consistent punctuality and reliability with excellent organisational skills and attendance.
  • Effective communication abilities and a professional, courteous attitude toward staff and visitors.
  • Flexibility to adjust working hours for occasional school events.
  • Proactive approach to independently identifying and resolving premises-related issues.

Compensation and Benefits

  • Annual salary ranging between €30,000 and €40,000, commensurate with experience.
  • Permanent, full-time employment in a well-equipped, modern school environment.
  • Supportive operations team with clear management structure and guidance.
  • Access to professional development opportunities through Nord Anglia Education's global network.
  • Modern campus facilities located in Leopardstown, Dublin 18.
  • Membership in an occupational pension scheme.
