About the Role

Join Twinings in the Greater Kolkata area as part of the Tea Supply Chain team. This role offers an opportunity to contribute to a dynamic environment that values diversity, collaboration, and innovation while offering growth prospects and valuable employee benefits.

As a key member of the Supply Chain and Operations team in India reporting to the Indian Supply Chain and Operations Manager, you will manage all logistics operations primarily related to finished goods supply and support cross-functional project teams for delivery of products and services. You will work closely with domestic sales, marketing teams, and the international supply chain and logistics groups to ensure compliance with relevant laws and smooth logistics processes.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Ensure strict adherence to logistics laws and regulations in India, including Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) regulations and the Customs Act.
  • Prepare and maintain necessary cargo documentation, handle licensing and renewals, map vessels, identify cost-effective shipping routes and negotiate favorable terms with logistics partners to optimize cost and service quality. Monitor shipment load capacity.
  • Serve as the main interface with statutory authorities such as FSSAI, Legal Metrology, Tea Board, and regulatory bodies like DGFT to ensure compliance with Indian trade and legal requirements.
  • Respond promptly and efficiently to governmental inquiries, notices, and show-cause letters, providing documentation support to the supply chain teams.
  • Maintain expertise in Indian customs rules and procedures, and have knowledge of customs processes in key export countries including the Middle East, China, Indonesia, Thailand, Singapore, Japan, and Australia; understand export modules operating from Special Economic Zones (SEZ), Authorised Agents (AA), and various export schemes.
  • Communicate Indian customs requirements clearly to stakeholders managing import and export consignments, covering documentation such as commercial invoices, labeling, packing lists, bills of lading, and waybills.
  • Collaborate with freight forwarders, customs agents, shipping lines, and warehouse teams to ensure proper packing, inventory management, and on-time readiness for shipment.
  • Advise on legal compliance regarding product labeling and facilitate label approval processes involving all relevant parties to maintain agreed service standards.
  • Support raw material receipt management through communication with stakeholders and updating relevant records to maintain accurate inventory data for issuance and stock closure.
  • Keep stakeholders informed about finished goods availability for domestic and export markets to maintain inventory levels as mandated by ERP systems or accounting software.
  • Ensure timely dispatch and delivery of finished goods to customers, and coordinate timely receipt of raw materials and packaging supplies to meet inventory levels and safety stock requirements delineated in the ERP.
  • Manage inventory databases for raw materials and finished products, ensuring accuracy and currency using existing or new tools.
  • Conduct compliance checks related to legal requirements across logistics, imports, and exports, advising on strategies to mitigate associated risks.
  • Develop internal capabilities by training Indian supply chain team members on Indian customs laws, procedures, and recent developments through workshops and engagement with regulatory offices such as FSSAI, Tea Board, and quarantine authorities.

Skills and Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in commerce, science, logistics, supply chain, or equivalent qualifications.
  • At least 10 to 12 years of experience working with customs agents and clearance processes for both air and sea shipments.
  • Minimum 10 years experience handling tea, herbs, and food additives related logistics.
  • Five to seven years of experience managing customs processes for key countries including Middle East, China, Indonesia, Thailand, Singapore, Japan, and Australia.
  • Ability to clearly communicate complex technical and customs matters to diverse audiences.
  • Proactive mindset to challenge existing procedures and find innovative solutions for timely product dispatch and receipt.
  • Experience exporting finished goods under Advance Authorization schemes, managing volumes approximately 150 MT and 40 SKUs monthly.
  • Comfortable working in fast-paced and evolving environments with ambiguity.
  • Strong relationship-building and stakeholder management capabilities.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and presentation skills, along with effective communication in English (reading, writing, and speaking).
  • Familiarity with SAP or other ERP systems.
