About the Role

Gemco Rail is hiring several motivated Locomotive Maintainers to join the Dynon team. This is a practical, hands-on position focused on locomotive inspections, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair so that equipment continues to meet safety, compliance, and operational requirements. The work is varied and fast-paced, with different faults and equipment issues presenting each day, so strong concentration, precision, and a careful approach are important.

Key Duties

• Carry out repairs on locomotives and related equipment.
• Take part in modification work, reconditioning tasks, fault diagnosis, testing, and responses to derailments or other incidents.
• Support continuous improvement efforts aimed at improving safety and production efficiency.
• Prepare and submit all required records and paperwork accurately and within required timeframes.

About You

You will report to the Depot Supervisor and work closely with the Dynon team. The ideal candidate brings strong trade experience, good communication skills, a team-oriented mindset, and a willingness to keep learning so they can develop broader multi-skilled capability. You must also be able to work within rail safety and workplace health and safety requirements.

Essential Requirements

• Trade qualifications such as Mechanical Fitter and Turner, Boilermaker, Diesel Mechanic, or Electrical Fitter.
• Physically fit and medically able to perform the duties of the role.
• Willingness to work rotating rosters, including shift work where needed, and perform reasonable overtime, including weekends.
• Strong trade and industry experience aligned to the qualification held.
• Well-developed oral and written communication skills, with the ability to work effectively with people at all levels and provide good customer service.
• Motivation to take part in training and development to build multi-skilling.
• Ability to understand and follow rail safety and occupational health and safety rules and principles.
• Current Australian driver's licence.

Desirable Experience

• Knowledge of the rail industry, especially diesel locomotives and rollingstock maintenance and servicing.
• Additional licences or qualifications such as forklift, crane chaser, or refrigerant handling.
