Job Overview

The Lieutenant is responsible for supervising custody and housing officers within their designated area, ensuring that staff remain vigilant and responsive throughout their shifts. They assist with maintaining the smooth operation of housing units and shifts by disseminating relevant information between line staff and supervisory personnel and by executing directives from higher-level officers such as the RUM, Prison Counselors, Captain, Assistant Deputy Wardens, and Deputy Warden.

Responsibilities

Lead, direct, and provide guidance to custody and housing officers regarding their duties and responsibilities. Maintain a high level of alertness and responsiveness from staff during shifts. Facilitate communication flow between line staff and supervisors, contributing to orderly housing unit and shift management.

Qualifications and Experience Requirements

Education: Completion of 15 semester (equivalent to 23 term) college credits in any academic discipline is mandatory.

Experience: Candidates should have either three years of experience comparable to Corrections Officer E9, Corrections Medical Officer E9, or Special Alternative Incarceration Officer E9; or two years equivalent to Resident Unit Officer E10, Corrections Transportation Officer E10, Corrections Medical Unit Officer E10, or Special Alternative Incarceration Officer E10; or one year equivalent to Corrections Shift Supervisor 11 or Assistant Resident Unit Supervisor 11.
