Job Overview

This position aims to foster a conducive educational environment that promotes positive student learning experiences. It involves active collaboration with classroom teachers, administrators, curriculum specialists, and other personnel to develop and implement school programs and goals.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree obtained from an accredited institution.
  • Certification or eligibility for certification by the Florida State Department of Education to teach within Florida.

Skills and Knowledge

  • Familiarity with prescribed curriculum and child development principles.
  • Effective written and verbal communication abilities.
  • Knowledge of recent educational research and basic technological skills.
  • Planning, organizational, and classroom management skills.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with administrators and instructional teams to create and carry out hands-on student programs and activities.
  • Participate actively as a faculty member to continuously improve school programs.
  • Manage the classroom environment and ensure the proper care of equipment.
  • Engage in professional development activities to enhance skills and knowledge.
  • Assess and analyze student progress to provide suitable instruction tailored to developmental stages.
  • Implement a variety of instructional methods to satisfy individual student needs.
  • Incorporate current research and technology into teaching practices.
  • Conduct regular evaluations of student progress.
  • Apply effective classroom management techniques to maintain a positive learning atmosphere.
  • Demonstrate sensitivity towards students, parents, and the community to boost student self-esteem.
  • Maintain professional relationships and communications with parents through conferences, calls, and written correspondence.
  • Encourage parental involvement in school activities, linking home and school.
  • Keep required records such as grade books, attendance, and student progress reports up-to-date.
  • Help protect school and student property.
  • Stay current with technology relevant to the role by attending district-supported training as necessary.
  • Ensure timely and accurate maintenance of information related to job duties.
  • Perform additional responsibilities assigned by the school principal.

Physical and Environmental Requirements

  • Physical tasks involve light work with moderate exertion, including stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, and occasionally lifting objects weighing 12-20 pounds.
  • Visual perception, oral communication, and sound discrimination are necessary for many tasks.
  • Work is generally conducted indoors without exposure to harmful environmental factors.

Evaluation

Job performance will be assessed according to terms outlined in the negotiated agreement between the School Board of Orange County, Florida, and the Orange County Classroom Teachers Association.
