Overview
Mackay Regional Council is seeking a permanent full-time Labourer for its Roads & Drains team based at the Paget Depot in the Civil Operations program. This Outdoor Level 3 Stream B role offers a practical, varied position supporting the upkeep and development of essential civil infrastructure across the Mackay region.
What the role involves
In this position, you will be part of a hands-on crew responsible for maintaining and constructing roads, drainage systems and related civil assets. The work is varied and contributes directly to the reliability and safety of community infrastructure.
- Drive rigid vehicles up to 15 tonnes and operate small ride-on plant and equipment.
- Carry out maintenance and construction activities across roads, drainage and civil works, including earthworks, concrete work, pipelaying, bitumen tasks and vegetation-related work.
- Perform everyday upkeep on assigned plant and coordinate with mechanical service staff.
- Support traffic control and site safety arrangements on worksites.
- Use digital systems and software to manage work orders and task allocations.
- Complete administration such as timesheets and basic number-based calculations.
Qualifications and skills needed
Applicants should have the following or be willing to obtain where noted:
- Valid General Construction Safety White Card.
- Current Queensland manual C-class open driver licence.
- MR truck licence, or willingness to gain it.
- Traffic Control Ticket or TMI qualifications, or willingness to obtain them.
- Ability to work independently and contribute effectively within a team.
- Strong focus on safe work practices and quality outcomes.
