Junior Developer - Python, PySpark and SQL

About the Role

Join a dedicated and purpose-driven team as a Junior Developer at Scotiabank within the Global Treasury Technology group. This role involves contributing to multiple liquidity risk projects including modernization and regulatory compliance efforts. You will split your time evenly between developing new code and maintaining existing applications, supporting business operations in a collaborative environment.

Key Responsibilities

• Manage daily operational processes and batch jobs to ensure smooth functionality.
• Develop cost-effective, reliable applications to meet business needs.
• Provide technical support during production and user acceptance testing phases.
• Participate in implementation planning and system development activities.
• Offer technical guidance to teammates and collaborate with cross-functional teams including internal data platform, infrastructure, security, and vendors.
• Write, execute, and unit test code to support project deliverables.

Required Qualifications and Skills

• Minimum two years of progressive experience in application programming, system analysis, design, debugging, and unit testing.
• Proficiency with Python, PySpark, Docker, Kubernetes, SQL, Linux (Redhat), and toolsets including Jira, Confluence, Artifactory, Bitbucket, SonarQube, and Git.
• Experience working with Linux/Unix environments and scripting.
• Hands-on knowledge of RDBMS systems, preferably Postgres.
• Ability to handle large daily data volumes and experience with Elastic Search technology.
• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a related technical discipline.

Desirable Qualifications

• Familiarity with data transformation practices and tools like Nifi.
• Knowledge of file transfer protocols such as FTP, SFTP, and other secure SSH connectivity methods.
• Understanding of financial instruments and application architecture design.
• Experience using source control tools, specifically Git.
• Previous experience at Scotiabank and knowledge of its internal operations is an asset.
