Role Overview

The Junior Clerk (Finance) will function within the Human & Health Services department, contributing to financial operations by managing accounts receivable processes, cash handling, and general administrative support. This temporary full-time position reports to the Manager of Administration or a designated representative and is unionized under C.U.P.E. Local 543.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

  • Manage clerical tasks associated with accounts receivable processing for Human and Health Services.
  • Verify financial and related information for accuracy.
  • Process a variety of revenue streams including cash, cheques, and electronic payments.
  • Administer daily banking activities such as maintaining a Petty Cash Float and processing Debit machine transactions.
  • Organize and sort data efficiently.
  • Perform general office work such as typing, filing, and answering phone calls.
  • Engage with the public and coworkers courteously and professionally.
  • Carry out Occupational Health & Safety responsibilities as prescribed by the municipality’s health and safety program.
  • Conduct additional related duties as needed.

Qualifications and Skills Required

  • Ontario Secondary School Graduation Diploma with at least one year of post-secondary education in Accounting or an equivalent as per Ontario Ministry of Education equivalencies.
  • More than one year of experience in a computerized office environment utilizing Microsoft Office products alongside experience in a finance-related setting.
  • Typing proficiency with a minimum speed of 40 words per minute.
  • Familiarity with PeopleSoft Financial System, SAMS, and Amanda software is a considerable advantage.
  • Strong mathematical skills are essential for accurate financial processing.
