Role summary
This position is focused on strengthening communication, engagement and learning capability across the IT function. It requires creating a coordinated, strategic approach to communications, upskilling and engagement for IT and the broader business. The role also involves producing communication and learning materials that support the IT strategy, the ongoing evolution of IT, and the changes that need to be implemented across both IT and the wider organisation.
Working in close partnership with corporate communications, marketing, and learning and development, this role helps ensure that messages are consistent with organisational standards and delivered through the right channels. A major part of the job is to improve clarity, transparency, engagement and capability across IT and the wider business.
Key accountabilities
- Build and manage a single IT communications plan that supports the IT strategy and the prioritised portfolio.
- Set up the communication structure, templates and governance needed for IT messaging.
- Produce engaging and easy-to-understand content such as SharePoint or intranet updates, town hall slides, and CIO announcements.
- Convert technical or strategic information into clear, business-friendly messages while keeping the agreed narrative consistent.
- Make sure IT communications stay aligned with wider corporate communications.
- Plan and coordinate recurring IT communications forums, including town halls.
- Work with corporate communications and marketing to align tone, brand standards and channel selection.
- Collect feedback and review engagement data to keep improving communication effectiveness.
- Define measures to track the impact and reach of IT communications.
- Support communication around the evolution of IT, including initiatives such as MIP, and help drive implementation across IT and the broader business.
- Develop and maintain an IT-wide learning and upskilling plan, along with supporting content that encourages a learning culture.
- Create and sustain an engagement plan for both IT and the wider business.
- Partner with programme and delivery teams on project-related, business-facing change work while broader capability is being established within delivery.
Qualifications, experience and skills
A bachelor’s degree in IT, Business, Communications or a related field is required. The role calls for at least 3 years of experience in communications, change or upskilling within data, digital or technology functions.
Strong writing, content creation and storytelling ability is important, especially the capacity to simplify complex topics. The ideal candidate should also have experience building structured, consistent communications plans and governance, as well as strong stakeholder management skills. A solid understanding of IT initiatives and technology transformation is also needed.
