Intermediate Industrial Designer

About the Role

Bensen Manufacturing, an internationally acclaimed furniture maker operating from Vancouver, Canada and Pordenone, Italy, seeks an Intermediate Industrial Designer to join their close-knit team on a maternity leave contract. This position involves a mix of industrial design, product development, and visual communications, perfect for a professional who thrives on diverse creative and technical tasks. The successful candidate will help drive new product creation from initial concept through to production and contribute to marketing, documentation, sales, and branding efforts.

This is a full-time position predominantly on-site in Vancouver with remote flexibility.

Key Responsibilities

• Collaborate with the Creative Director to develop design concepts utilizing hand sketches, 3D CAD modeling, and physical prototyping including 3D printing and full-scale models.
• Produce detailed design-intent drawings, 3D assets, and technical materials to communicate effectively with manufacturing partners.
• Conduct research on materials and finishes, develop finishes, and evaluate prototypes.
• Support the creation of visually consistent brand assets and marketing collateral such as catalogs, price lists, website content, renderings, and product instructions.
• Provide assistance to sales and customer service teams by generating product inquiries support assets like renderings, drawings, and other collateral.
• Engage in strategic discussions on company initiatives including sustainability, branding, marketing, and adoption of new technologies.
• Perform additional tasks and projects as assigned.

Qualifications and Experience

• Bachelor's degree in Industrial Design or a closely related field.
• 3 to 5 years of industry experience in industrial, furniture, or interior product design.
• Proficient in Rhino and V-Ray for modeling, rendering, and technical illustrations.
• Strong command of Adobe Creative Suite applications such as InDesign, Illustrator, and Photoshop.
• Working knowledge of SolidWorks, AutoCAD, and Microsoft Office is advantageous.
• Exceptional sketching, visual storytelling, and presentation capabilities.
• Curiosity and understanding of materials, manufacturing methodologies, and product development processes.
• Excellent communication, organizational skills, and meticulous attention to detail.
• Aptitude for managing concurrent priorities within a collaborative small team environment.
• Additional valued experience includes photography, workshop skills, and knowledge of furniture or design history.
• Must be eligible to work in Canada or willing to relocate to Vancouver.
