Job description

About the Opportunity

Evergreens is pioneering a comprehensive environmental education platform designed for school-aged learners in Armenia. Our platform will engage young people in understanding, protecting, and documenting their environmental impact through modules spanning biodiversity, ecosystems, water, soil, forests, climate change, sustainable development, and environmental civic action. Operating under the philosophy of "learn–act–document," our goal is to empower the next generation to connect with and take responsibility for the natural world. The platform will be officially launched at CBD COP17 in Yerevan in October 2026, positioning Armenia as a leader in environmental education reform.

Role Overview

We are seeking a talented Instructional Designer to conceive and develop the eLearning modules that constitute the backbone of our platform. This role requires taking charge of the entire instructional content cycle: starting from learning pathway structuring and module architecture, through detailed storyboarding, interactive activity creation, formative and summative assessment development, and rigorous quality assurance. Collaboration will be essential, as you will work closely with subject-matter experts, our Education Specialist, and our design and technical teams.

This position goes far beyond merely populating modules with content. It is about designing powerful educational experiences for youth who may be encountering these ideas for the first time and ensuring that every lesson and activity contributes to a cohesive, progressive learning journey. You will have a critical influence over the instructional framework and the overall flow of knowledge and skills across the platform.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop instructional architecture and design logical, engaging educational pathways for environmental topics.
  • Create detailed storyboards and scripts for modules focused on a range of environmental subjects.
  • Produce interactive and scenario-based learning activities, formative knowledge checks, and comprehensive summative assessments.
  • Collaborate effectively with visual designers and technical teams to bring modules from concept to completion.
  • Ensure each module stands alone as a valuable learning experience while connecting to the broader educational sequence across the platform.
  • Apply rigorous quality assurance processes to verify instructional value, factual accuracy, and usability for young audiences.
  • Facilitate or coordinate pilot testing with learners and use their feedback to enhance content and engagement.

Required Qualifications

  • Background in environmental education, environmental science, or similar, with proven ability to communicate complex topics clearly to non-experts.
  • Substantial experience designing eLearning or digital content, ideally targeting adolescents or youth learners.
  • Advanced skills in instructional design methodologies and practical knowledge of learning theories (e.g., Bloom's Taxonomy, constructivism).
  • Experience crafting detailed storyboards and scripts across varied environmental topics.
  • Expertise in developing interactivity within eLearning—such as knowledge checks, simulations, and scenario exercises.
  • Clear communicator who works well across interdisciplinary teams, supporting seamless digital content production.
  • Familiarity with implementing quality assurance protocols for educational materials.
  • Experience in piloting content and iterating based on learner feedback.
  • Fluent in both Armenian and English, with the ability to create professional-level content in both languages.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience working within Armenian or Eastern European/Central Asian educational settings.
  • Understanding of gamification elements and their use in youth eLearning environments.
  • Insight into digital badge and open credentialing systems.
  • Background in EU-funded or international civil society/educational projects.
  • Portfolio showcasing interactive, multimedia-rich, or scenario-driven eLearning solutions.

Additional Information

This position is available as part of the "Sustainable, Impactful and Inclusive Civil Society" (SIICS) initiative, funded by the EU and implemented by the Democracy Development Foundation, People in Need, and Boon Cultural-Scientific Foundation, aiming to strengthen Armenia's civil society and its role in democratic reforms and community engagement.

Applications are reviewed on a rolling basis; only shortlisted candidates will be contacted for interviews.
