Role Overview
Olumawu School in Abuja is looking for a dependable, empathetic, and highly structured Housemistress to take charge of the care, safety, and overall growth of students living in the boarding house. This role suits someone who can balance discipline with warmth and help create a stable, supportive residential environment for young people.
Key Duties
- Safeguard the wellbeing, protection, and daily comfort of all boarding students.
- Oversee day-to-day boarding house routines and ensure smooth operations.
- Promote discipline while maintaining a caring and encouraging atmosphere.
- Track students’ attendance, academic engagement, and personal development.
- Offer guidance, mentorship, and emotional support where needed.
- Plan and coordinate boarding activities, schedules, and recreation.
- Keep accurate records relating to attendance, health, and behaviour.
- Work closely with parents, teachers, school leaders, and medical professionals.
- Follow school rules, health standards, and child protection procedures.
- Respond effectively to emergencies and welfare-related concerns.
Qualifications and Experience
The school is seeking a candidate with a bachelor’s degree in Education, Psychology, Social Sciences, Child Development, or another closely related discipline. Applicants should bring at least 3 years of experience supporting children or teenagers in a school, boarding, residential, or pastoral care environment. Strong communication, leadership, organisation, and problem-solving abilities are essential, along with the capacity to handle sensitive student matters discreetly and professionally. Familiarity with child safeguarding and welfare practices is important. First Aid certification would be an advantage. The role also requires a mature, responsible, and compassionate person who can live on campus if needed.
