Hotel Houseperson

Position Overview

Reporting to the Housekeeping Manager, the Hotel Houseperson ensures the hotel guests enjoy a clean, welcoming environment by maintaining cleanliness standards throughout the property and efficiently responding to room supply requests. Adherence to established policies, procedures, and quality benchmarks is mandatory to guarantee guest satisfaction.

Key Responsibilities

• Maintain guest floor cleanliness including vacuuming hallways daily.
• Use appropriate chemicals, tools, and equipment correctly for cleaning.
• Clean guest room corridors, shampoo floors, and care for floor closets and storage rooms.
• Keep service corridors, elevator tracks and landings spotless.
• Wipe surfaces of vending and ice machines, and ensure vending areas are tidy and floors swept and mopped.
• Ensure stairwells are free of stored items.
• Transport room service trays and items in guest hallways to designated service elevator landings promptly.
• Deliver requested items such as linens, cots, and amenities to guest rooms quickly; retrieve and store items appropriately.
• Assist in inspecting guest rooms during cash pay room checks and report damages or smoking violations to front desk.
• Distribute linen and terry supplies evenly across floors.
• Hand over any lost and found items to the supervisor.
• Safeguard assigned keys, radios, and mobile devices.
• Manage laundry tasks for cleaning cloths, rags, and hotel linen on assigned schedules.
• Check assignment sheets and update tasks upon completion; coordinate regularly with supervisors for additional duties.
• Report damage or maintenance issues to management promptly for resolution.
• Respond politely and helpfully to guest inquiries.
• Collect and transport dirty glassware to kitchen stewarding areas and redistribute clean glasses to floors.
• Perform additional tasks as assigned by supervisors during shifts.
• Operate cleaning equipment safely in compliance with all standard procedures.
• Keep linen closets clean, fully stocked, and well organized.
• Maintain inventory of guest room products for room attendant carts.
• Remove debris, food trays, soiled linens, and trash from hallways and transport to service areas.
• Follow health and safety protocols to maintain a secure environment for all.

Qualifications and Requirements

• Prior cleaning experience, preferably in a hotel setting.
• Customer service skills are essential.
• Physical ability to lift, push, and pull moderate weights (minimum 11.5 kg / 25 lbs).
• Capability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously.
• Good communication abilities.
• Proficiency in operating basic cleaning and laundry machines.
• A commitment to safety for oneself and colleagues.

Work Environment and Conditions

• Operates within a 24/7 facility requiring flexible scheduling including days, evenings, nights, weekends, and holidays.
• Must consent to a criminal background check with acceptable results.
• Employment eligibility in Canada is mandatory.
