Role overview

This community-based healthcare position focuses on supporting people so they can keep their independence, dignity, and overall quality of life while living at home. The work involves assisting service users who may face challenges with everyday activities, including vulnerable adults, older adults, and people with physical or learning disabilities.

The postholder will report to the Client Service Manager and Client Supervisors, with overall accountability to the Company Directors.

Purpose of the role

You will be part of a locally assigned team of Healthcare Assistants, working under the guidance of the Clinical Director, Client Service Manager, and Client Supervisors. The aim of the role is to provide high-quality, person-centred support that helps service users remain at home with as little dependence on others as possible.

The position requires you to foster a respectful and compassionate care environment through professional practice that responds to the physical, emotional, social, intellectual, and spiritual needs of each person. Care must be delivered according to agreed care plans, while also contributing to their review and ongoing improvement.

Key duties

The Healthcare Assistant will deliver safe and professional personal and practical care in line with individual care plans and HIQA Safer Better Healthcare Standards. Typical duties include supporting service users with daily living tasks, helping around the home, and maintaining clear communication with the wider care team.

• Provide personal care support such as washing, dressing, feeding, toileting, continence care, and help with movement
• Carry out domestic support duties within the care plan, including laundry, meal preparation, and cleaning
• Encourage social participation and help service users stay connected with family and community, including accompanying them outside the home when agreed
• Assist with practical and financial errands such as shopping and collecting benefits
• Accompany service users to medical and social appointments
• Work with other healthcare professionals to help shape and improve individual care plans
• Keep Daily Journal records accurate and up to date
• Escalate any changes in a service user’s condition or surroundings
• Report safeguarding concerns, including suspected abuse, in line with procedure
• Raise complaints, incidents, or equipment faults without delay
• Maintain strong hygiene standards and follow infection prevention and control requirements

Qualifications and experience

The role requires a recognised healthcare-related qualification and previous hands-on care experience in relevant settings. Good communication ability and a valid driving licence are also essential.

• Minimum FETAC Level 5 / QQI qualification or a qualification in a relevant healthcare discipline
• At least 2 years of experience in home care, nursing home care, or an acute healthcare environment
• Background in elder care and/or support for people with disabilities
• Strong spoken and written English skills, with at least B1 level
• Full, clean Irish or EU driving licence

Employment details

This is a full-time role of 39 hours per week, based onsite in Dublin, County Dublin, Ireland. The annual salary is €32,691.
