About Marbles Kids Museum
Located in downtown Raleigh, Marbles Kids Museum is a dynamic nonprofit children's museum and IMAX Theatre that has inspired imagination and learning through interactive play since 2007. It serves diverse families, school groups, and community organizations via engaging exhibits, camps, films, and special events, ranking as a top family destination in North Carolina.
Role Overview
The Guest Engagement Host position calls for an energetic and enthusiastic individual passionate about play and providing outstanding guest service. This role is vital in creating safe and memorable experiences for all visitors by assisting with exhibits, welcoming guests, managing group visits and birthday parties, among other duties.
Key Responsibilities
- Deliver proactive, friendly, and exceptional customer service through positive interactions with all museum guests, addressing inquiries and reporting feedback to supervisors.
- Engage guests playfully within exhibit spaces to enrich their learning and entertainment.
- Promptly and calmly manage any inappropriate or unsafe behavior using de-escalation methods.
- Assist with daily museum opening and closing alongside the Guest Engagement team.
- Welcome and guide visitors and school groups across the campus, ensuring smooth flow and clear communication of schedules and museum layout.
- Handle admissions at the welcome desk, processing payments, passes, reciprocal benefits, and memberships.
- Regularly inspect and maintain exhibit props to ensure cleanliness, safety, and usability.
- Facilitate informal hands-on activities called “Sparks” to further engage guests.
- Set up and clear program or event materials as required.
- Collect various museum-related data, including attendance, surveys, and feedback.
- Manage inventory tasks such as stocking supplies, handling deliveries, and receiving products as directed.
- Communicate logistics such as scheduling, inventory, and equipment needs effectively with supervisors.
- Use walkie-talkie communication to support daily operations and guest assistance.
- Support emergency procedures by assisting with the museum's Emergency Action Plan to ensure safety of guests and team members.
- Carry out additional duties as assigned by supervisors.
Preferred Skills and Experience
- Minimum one year of customer service experience, ideally with families and young children.
- Ability to initiate and engage in playful activities with children and families.
- Experience in children's museums or similar environments is advantageous.
- Familiarity with cash handling and point-of-sale systems is a plus.
- Capability to thrive in a fast-paced, active work setting requiring movement across tasks and locations.
- Adaptability and willingness to handle diverse tasks as guest and museum needs evolve.
- Passion for informal educational settings.
- Strong verbal and written communication abilities.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to walk, stand, stoop, bend, reach, and occasionally use ladders or stairs.
- Capacity to stand for extended periods and frequently lift or move items weighing up to 30 pounds.
Work Schedule
- Open availability preferred, but at minimum available weekdays 8:30 AM to 2:00 PM and full days on Saturday and/or Sunday.
- Expected to work 20 to 25 hours weekly.
- Flexible scheduling required, including weekends, evenings, and holidays with a minimum of two weekend shifts monthly.
Work Environment
- Exposure to lively, noisy, and crowded surroundings.
- Walking between multiple buildings with occasional outdoor exposure.
