We partner with key agencies such as the NYC Department of Youth and Community Development (DYCD), Department of Health (DOH), and Office of Children Services (OCFS) to support youth enrichment and development.

Position Overview

The Group Leader is essential in fostering a secure, engaging, and nurturing afterschool setting for students in grades Kindergarten through 8th grade. This role requires active supervision of participants, facilitating activities, and supporting youth development aligned with guidelines established by DYCD, DOH, and NYCDOE. The Group Leader promotes academic support, social and emotional growth, and positive behavior within a structured environment.

Key Responsibilities

• Ensure continuous supervision of program participants across all operational locations including during off-site outings.
• Support safe transportation of students to and from school as assigned.
• Offer homework support, keeping participants engaged and assisting with academic tasks.
• Design and lead engaging academic, recreational, and enrichment activities that incorporate literacy, STEAM, youth development, and community service elements.
• Prepare lesson plans, organize materials, and maintain clean and orderly activity spaces.
• Support teachers and specialists by actively participating in activities and encouraging participant involvement.
• Maintain adherence to the daily program schedule and participant attendance.
• Apply positive youth development techniques to manage behavior, nurture self-esteem, and promote responsible attitudes.
• Develop positive rapport with participants, serving as a role model.
• Engage in professional development through meetings, workshops, and at least 15 hours of training annually, applying new skills to improve program quality.
• Follow all program guidelines, safety procedures, and regulatory rules to ensure quality service and participant safety.
• Promptly report any incidents or behaviors that could affect participant or staff safety.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required; post-secondary coursework in education or youth development is highly favored.
• Experience working with children grades K-8 in contexts such as afterschool programs, camps, or youth services.
• Proven ability to lead group activities and engage diverse youth populations.
• Excellent communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
• Successful completion of background checks, fingerprinting, and Department of Education clearance.

Additional Information

• Weekly schedule: Monday through Friday, from 2:00 PM to 6:00 PM, not exceeding 20 hours per week.
• Hourly pay rate ranges from $17.00 to $17.50.
