Role Overview

We are seeking a Graduate Design Engineer to join the Singapore Technology Centre and contribute to the development of a confidential new product category. This position offers the chance to tackle unfamiliar engineering challenges while learning from seasoned engineers, helping transform ambitious concepts into reliable, manufacturable Dyson products.

Responsibilities

• Assist in designing product components and assemblies that comply with requirements for performance, reliability, safety, cost, and timelines.
• Translate technical and product challenges into precise design specifications, considering manufacturing and cost constraints.
• Develop and assess design concepts based on functionality, user needs, manufacturability, and technical risks.
• Apply principles for manufacturability and assembly during design reviews and development.
• Manage and review 3D CAD models, 2D drawings, tolerance analyses, and relevant engineering documentation.
• Conduct tolerance stack analyses to evaluate variation impacts on products.
• Construct mock-ups, rigs, and functional prototypes to validate concepts and support design evaluations.
• Design and implement tests to identify risks, assess limits, and verify performance, reliability, and durability.
• Analyze test results and failures to identify root causes and recommend practical solutions.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams including engineering, manufacturing, quality, procurement, suppliers, and technical leads.
• Support supplier engagements and manufacturing processes by reviewing technical inputs and design quality.
• Document learnings, design decisions, and technical evidence for continual improvement.
• Manage workload, monitor progress, and escalate issues as appropriate.

Candidate Profile

• Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Product Design, Mechatronics, Science, or related technical disciplines.
• Recent graduate or early-career engineer with under two years' relevant experience, including internships or project experience.
• Familiarity with mechanical design, product development, prototyping, and testing environments.
• Fundamental understanding of plastic, rubber, metal, and mechanical assembly design following DFM and DFA concepts.
• Competent in 3D CAD modeling, 2D engineering drawings, GD&T, tolerance stack-ups, and documentation review.
• Knowledge of prototype testing and utilizing results to guide design decisions.
• Strong analytical skills, curiosity, and ability to work methodically to resolve engineering problems.
• Comfortable in a fast-paced and evolving product development setting, capable of working independently and collaboratively.
• Effective communicator capable of conveying technical concepts clearly.
• Passionate about engineering innovation and creating meaningful product improvements.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience from internships or projects related to consumer products, home appliances, mechanical systems, or product R&D.
• Exposure to plastic injection molding, tooling, manufacturing, assembly processes, or quality control.
• Basic knowledge of risk assessment tools such as DFMEA or PFMEA.
• Ability to sketch design ideas in 2D or 3D for communication purposes.
• Familiarity with statistical methods, measurement techniques, and product verification testing.
• Additional understanding of thermals, acoustics, fluid dynamics, electronics, mechanisms, or human factors is beneficial.
