Role Summary

The General Superintendent is responsible for directing field operations on some of the nation’s most demanding marine and heavy civil construction projects. Partnering closely with Project Managers and leadership, the role requires leading daily construction activities, developing high-performing teams, and ensuring project success from planning through execution and completion. Beyond operational management, the position involves influencing project strategies, mentoring emerging leaders, strengthening client relationships, and upholding high standards of safety, quality, and operational excellence.

Educational Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Construction Engineering, Civil Engineering, or closely related engineering or construction fields, or equivalent combination of education and industry experience.

Professional Experience

• Minimum of eight years progressively responsible experience managing field operations in heavy civil, marine, structural, industrial, or transportation construction projects.
• Demonstrated leadership and decision-making capabilities in guiding teams, addressing complex field issues, and ensuring project success.
• Track record of promoting and maintaining a culture focused on safety, quality, accountability, and operational excellence.
• Experience working collaboratively with Project Managers, engineers, owners, consultants, municipalities, DOTs, USACE, ports, utilities, or industrial clients.
• Capability to manage multiple priorities, provide sound operational decisions under pressure, and succeed in dynamic construction environments.

Core Skills

• Strong leadership and decisive problem-solving skills with the ability to guide teams effectively.
• Comprehensive understanding of heavy civil construction techniques, sequencing, production planning, and self-performing operations.
• Proficiency in interpreting construction drawings, specifications, contracts, and technical documents.
• Knowledge of construction management software and Microsoft Office applications.
• Exceptional organizational and time management abilities to juggle multiple projects and resource demands efficiently.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills for building relationships with clients, subcontractors, vendors, and internal teams.
• Analytical mindset with skill in risk evaluation and making strategic operational choices.

Physical and Environmental Requirements

• Ability to freely navigate all areas of construction sites under diverse climate conditions.
• Comfortable working outdoors for extended periods in varying temperatures.
• Use of personal protective equipment (PPE) such as respirators and fall protection.
• Travel via land, water, and air as required by project needs.
• Physical ability to lift, climb, push, pull, squat, and perform other manual tasks; climb ladders and work at heights.
• Ability to lift up to 20 pounds and work on uneven terrain and from marine platforms such as barges and vessels.
• Capable of sustained periods of desk work including sitting and computer use.

Compensation
