Role Overview
The Flagger II position entails managing the flow of vehicles around construction zones and maintenance sites to preserve safety for workers and the public. Responsibilities include the arrangement and removal of traffic control items such as signs, cones, and barricades, as well as signaling motorists using hand gestures and signage. This role demands acute attention to detail, endurance to perform outdoor duties in varying weather, and the ability to stand for prolonged hours.
Key Duties
- Install and remove traffic control devices to reroute traffic safely in work zones.
- Manage traffic flow effectively using stop/slow paddles.
- Maintain clear communication with team members utilizing two-way radios.
- Stand, walk, and reach frequently, sustaining activity up to 10 hours daily.
- Lift and maneuver objects exceeding 50 pounds as required.
- Drive company vehicles to transport equipment to various work sites.
- Conduct standard vehicle inspections and upkeep.
- Work exposed to outdoor environmental conditions, operational machinery, moving vehicles, and airborne particulates.
- Operate within typically moderate to loud noise levels.
- Follow all company policies and procedures diligently.
- Perform additional tasks as assigned.
Qualifications and Requirements
- Possession of a valid driver’s license.
- Successful clearance of background checks, including motor vehicle records.
- Compliance with drug testing and federal Department of Transportation regulations.
- Use of appropriate safety gear such as safety-toe boots, hard hats, safety glasses, and vests.
- Proficient in using two-way radios.
- Capacity to work in diverse weather conditions and traffic environments.
- Strong communication skills with contractors and colleagues, providing excellent customer service.
- Teamwork-oriented attitude.
- Consistent attendance, dependable transportation, and robust work ethic.
- Completion of the ATSSA Flagger training and company-provided Defensive Driver program.
- Willingness to travel statewide with possible overnight assignments and work flexible hours including nights and weekends.
- Availability for a rotating on-call schedule.
