Position Summary
The Financial Controller is entrusted with guaranteeing the accuracy, integrity, and promptness of the organization's financial reports. This role involves upholding a robust internal control system and ensuring adherence to all relevant accounting principles and regulations to provide clear, dependable financial data supporting senior management decisions. The position also acts as a central governance pillar to maintain financial discipline.
Reporting Structure
- Directly reports to the Finance Director.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the compilation of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements.
- Ensure adherence to IFRS and applicable local regulatory standards.
- Manage consolidation processes involving subsidiaries, special purpose vehicles, and other operational units.
- Standardize accounting policy applications across varied projects and service divisions.
- Maintain oversight of the general ledger and chart of accounts ensuring accuracy and governance.
- Optimize and manage month-end and year-end closing procedures.
- Ensure precise recording of accruals, provisions, and other necessary adjustments.
- Facilitate orderly and timely closing cycles supported by structured reporting schedules.
- Oversee correct revenue recognition practices.
- Manage cost allocation approaches, including direct project expenses, capitalization where eligible, and operational/service delivery costs.
- Review critical accounting estimates such as stage-of-completion, performance obligations, and cost-to-complete metrics.
- Monitor financial tracking of project costs, budgets, and related commitments effectively.
- Ensure revenue and cost matching in service contracts and daily operations.
- Support insight into project and unit performance through dependable financial reporting.
- Develop, implement, and supervise internal control systems across financial processes.
- Guarantee segregation of duties and compliance with authorization protocols.
- Establish and enforce financial guidelines, policies, and controls.
- Identify and address financial, operational, and compliance risks proactively.
- Supervise accounts payable processes ensuring correctness, approvals, and contract compliance.
- Manage accounts receivable including collections and credit risk across clients and projects.
- Promote disciplined working capital management throughout project and service cycles.
- Manage accounting for capital expenditures, development costs, and fixed assets thoroughly.
- Maintain accurate asset registers, including depreciation and impairment reviews.
- Clearly differentiate between capitalized and expensed costs following accounting standards.
- Lead external audit engagement, coordinate auditor relationships, and ensure timely preparation of audit documentation.
- Respond to audit findings with corrective actions and communicate with regulators to ensure compliance.
- Oversee financial system governance focusing on ERP data integrity.
- Drive finance process improvements by automating, standardizing, and increasing efficiency.
- Enhance financial reporting capabilities to support operational and project performance monitoring.
- Provide leadership and mentorship to accounting and reporting staff.
- Cultivate a culture emphasizing accountability, accuracy, and ongoing development.
- Ensure the finance department is structured to meet project and service business demands optimally.

Qualifications and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related disciplines.
- Preferred professional certifications like CPA, ACCA, or equivalents.
- Over 10 years of relevant experience in accounting and financial reporting.
- Experience in environments involving both projects and service delivery is an advantage.
- In-depth knowledge of International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS).
