Job description

About the Role

We have an opportunity for Family Support Workers to join our Targeted Early Help service, dedicated to supporting families in the Slough region. If you have experience delivering one-on-one and group interventions with parents, children, and young people facing complex challenges, this role will allow you to make a real difference in the lives of local families.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

  • Conduct comprehensive family assessments, ensuring detailed written reports are accurately recorded in the ICS system.
  • Provide brief and extended support interventions, using established models such as the Dundee Model of family support depending on the family's needs.
  • Take the lead professional role throughout the support process, from initial assessment through to successful exit, ensuring commitment from parents and children in following the action plan.
  • Coordinate involvement from various external services, facilitating the Team Around the Family (TAF) approach for holistic support.
  • Deliver support flexibly including during early mornings, evenings, and weekends, both at family homes and in community settings.
  • Maintain meticulous records of every intervention, using the outcomes-based Family Star tool to track and evidence outcome achievements in the ICS system.
  • Encourage and support families through both step up and step down early intervention processes, identifying when statutory measures may be needed and working alongside Social Care as appropriate.
  • Uphold anti-discriminatory practices, ensuring services are appropriately tailored for the diverse community of Slough, with sensitivity to race, gender, sexuality, and disability.
  • Undertake additional responsibilities as assigned by your line manager, consistent with the nature of the post.

Person Specification

  • Minimum two years' experience in intensive support roles (one-to-one and group work) with families facing complex challenges.
  • At least one year as a lead professional coordinating family-focused interventions and evaluating progress.
  • Demonstrated experience partnering with statutory and voluntary bodies, including organizing multi-agency efforts (desirable).
  • Extensive familiarity with safeguarding, child protection policies, and confidentiality protocols.
  • Strong commitment to ongoing professional development and continuous training in related fields.
  • Ability to travel throughout the Slough area as part of your duties.
  • Capable of working flexible hours, independently and as part of a team, and coordinating services from a wide network of providers.
  • Organizational proficiency, self-motivation, exemplary record-keeping, and prioritization skills.
  • IT literacy, especially in Microsoft Word and Excel.
  • Relevant qualification: A Level, NVQ3 (Child Development, Youth, Health, or Social Care), or an equivalent professional certificate. Specialized qualifications (e.g., Emotional Health) are an advantage.

Additional Information

  • This is a permanent, full-time role based at Observatory House, 25 Windsor Road, Slough, Berkshire.
  • Applications may close early depending on applicant volume.
  • Slough Children First offers a supportive team environment, regular supervision, and development opportunities.
  • Job Reference: AD1640170ObsFSW.
