Job description
Overview
A prominent contractor is seeking an Estimator to join their Longford office team. The appointed individual will be responsible for managing the pricing and tendering processes to deliver precise, competitive, and comprehensively documented estimates specifically for bespoke joinery and fit-out packages. This position plays a vital role in securing profitable contracts and facilitates the smooth handover from tender to project delivery teams.
Key Duties
- Analyze tender documents, architectural plans, and specifications to produce detailed material and labor quantity take-offs.
- Estimate costs for bespoke joinery and fit-out works, covering manufacturing, finishing, ironmongery, delivery, and installation.
- Solicit and evaluate bids from suppliers and subcontractors, conducting negotiations to ensure optimal value.
- Prepare and submit tenders, bills of quantities, and detailed cost analyses within required timeframes.
- Participate in pre-tender meetings, site inspections, and post-submission clarification discussions with clients and main contractors.
- Identify opportunities for value engineering and suggest alternative approaches to enhance bid competitiveness.
- Transition successful projects to the project coordinator and workshop teams, clarifying scope, allowances, and key exclusions.
- Support pricing for variations and additional tasks on ongoing projects.
- Maintain and update the company's pricing database, supplier rate cards, and estimating records.
- Monitor tender results and report insights regarding success rates and prevailing market pricing to management.
Candidate Requirements
- At least three years of experience in estimating within joinery, fit-out, or construction sectors, with a preference for joinery/fit-out expertise.
- Proficient in interpreting architectural drawings and technical specifications.
- Thorough knowledge of joinery materials, manufacturing practices, and installation techniques.
- Familiarity with estimating and take-off software such as Project Pak is advantageous.
- Commercially savvy with meticulous attention to accuracy and detail.
- Ability to handle multiple tenders simultaneously and meet stringent deadlines.
- Effective communication skills and comfort engaging with clients, main contractors, and suppliers.
- Possession of a full, clean driving license is preferred.
- Background in carpentry and joinery trade or relevant qualifications in quantity surveying or construction economics.
- Experience costing projects for main contractors on commercial fit-out works.
- Knowledge of CAD drawing interpretation and the use of cutting-list or production software.
Compensation and Benefits
- Salary ranging between €45,000 and €55,000, depending on experience.
