Role overview
The Environmental Specialist will help deliver the organisation’s Environmental Excellence programme and support compliance with all applicable government environmental requirements. The role plays a key part in building effective systems, maintaining records, and ensuring site activities align with regulatory obligations.
Key responsibilities
- Create and maintain environmental policies, procedures, and supporting documentation such as written programmes, inspection logs, monitoring records, reports, and test results.
- Work closely with the wider EHS team to support environmental, health, and safety activities whenever needed.
- Track changes in local environmental laws, interpret what they require, and update internal processes and programmes accordingly.
- Help deliver environmental training to employees across all levels so they understand and follow relevant regulations across the facilities.
- Carry out and record routine environmental audits and inspections to confirm continued compliance with permits, regulations, and other requirements.
- Coordinate site visits with internal and external regulatory authorities and prepare annual local EPA submissions covering areas such as air, waste, and water.
- Support compliance with the IPC Licence by completing environmental tasks such as VOC abatement monitoring and reporting, storm water sampling and monitoring, waste stream oversight for hazardous and non-hazardous waste, and preparation of EPA reports such as AER, SMP, and EPR, including data collation.
- Contribute to site environmental programmes focused on cost reduction, accident prevention, safety behaviour audits, and risk assessments.
- Assist with safe handling, storage, and disposal of hazardous materials in line with safety procedures and EPA environmental standards.
- Support the implementation of environmental, energy, and sustainability goals and targets with the ProAmpac team.
- Promote continual improvement in environmental performance by reviewing current practices, identifying improvement opportunities, and helping shape a site environmental improvement plan with site managers.
- Handle all information with strict confidentiality and treat proprietary data with appropriate care and control.
- Keep environmental information updated in the EDEN portal as required.
- Complete other reasonable duties assigned to support the role.
Skills and qualifications
- A qualification in Environmental Studies.
- At least 2 years of experience in a manufacturing setting is preferred.
- Experience dealing with the HSA, EPA, and other bodies such as County Council and Inland Fisheries Ireland.
- Ability to understand and apply regulatory standards.
- Strong working knowledge of the MS Office suite.
- Good teamwork skills and the ability to work effectively with employees, environmental teams, and external stakeholders at all levels.
- Problem-solving ability with a practical, innovative approach to improvement.
- Strong attention to detail, good record management, and leadership skills focused on delivering results.
- A proactive, self-motivated approach with the ability to work independently and as part of a team.
