English Teacher

Overview

We are seeking a dedicated English Teacher experienced in teaching Grades 6 through 12, including High School Diploma and IB Diploma Programme (IBDP) levels. This is a permanent position reporting to the Head of Secondary within the academic department. The role involves delivering high-quality instruction, fostering a safe and stimulating learning environment, and contributing actively to school life.

Responsibilities

• Teach English to students from Grades 6 to 8 (Years 7–9) and from Grades 9 to 12 (Years 10–13) at the High School Diploma or IBDP level.
• Create an inspiring, motivating atmosphere that sets high expectations for all pupils.
• Establish a respectful and safe classroom environment.
• Develop goals that challenge students across diverse backgrounds and abilities.
• Demonstrate and promote positive attitudes and behaviors expected of students.
• Take accountability for students’ attainment, progress, and outcomes.
• Plan lessons based on students’ prior knowledge and capabilities, and guide pupils to reflect on their learning progress and needs.
• Have deep subject knowledge and curriculum understanding, fostering interest and addressing misconceptions.
• Design well-structured lessons using effective methods, including homework and extracurricular activities to deepen understanding.
• Differentiating instruction to accommodate varying needs, including those with special educational needs and English as an additional language.
• Use a variety of assessment methods to monitor progress, provide feedback, set targets, and plan future lessons.
• Effectively manage student behavior with clear rules, routines, and consistent use of praise, sanctions, and rewards.
• Contribute to wider school life, including extracurricular activities and curriculum events.
• Maintain professional relationships with colleagues, deploy support staff effectively, and engage in professional development.
• Follow all health and safety policies, including promoting student safety and performing playground duties.
• Adhere to high professional and ethical standards in conduct, respecting pupil dignity, safeguarding student welfare, cultural expectations of Qatar, and school policies.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in teaching from an accredited institution.
• Mandatory teaching certification for Qatar Ministry of Education and Higher Education (MOEHE).
• Minimum of 3 years relevant teaching experience.
• Proficiency in English is essential.
• Experience teaching English at High School Diploma, IB Diploma, or A Level; IB DP Chemistry experience is an advantage.
• Comprehensive understanding of school assessments, up-to-date curriculum knowledge and teaching theory.
• Strong classroom management, communication, organizational, critical thinking, and interpersonal skills.
• Competency with computer applications including word processing and spreadsheets.
• Commitment to child safeguarding and protection.
• Flexible, professional, empathetic, culturally aware, and enthusiastic about delivering quality education.
