Role Overview
The English Teacher at Durham School for Girls (DSGD) is responsible for ensuring that all instructional staff adhere to UK Teaching Standards while aligning with the school's MARK values, policies, and the cultural standards set by the Qatari Ministry of Education (MOE). The role encompasses delivering engaging, quality lessons tailored to a diverse student body, fostering a safe inclusive environment, and supporting both academic and personal student advancement. Maintaining professional conduct, working collaboratively within the school community, and ensuring curriculum and teaching practices reflect DSGD/MARK values and Qatari ethics are also key elements.
Key Duties
- Plan and execute engaging lesson plans individually or in teams according to subject standards and learning objectives.
- Ensure curriculum and materials align with DSGD/MARK and Qatari cultural values.
- Incorporate innovative technologies to enhance interactive, student-centered learning.
- Provide timely, constructive feedback on student progress and assignments.
- Assess and adapt teaching strategies based on continuous evaluation of student learning and professional guidelines.
- Maintain an inclusive classroom atmosphere that encourages mutual respect, collaboration, and critical thinking.
- Set clear behavior expectations to sustain a safe and respectful learning space.
- Communicate effectively with students, parents, colleagues, and other stakeholders to share progress and address concerns.
- Support student wellbeing by addressing issues such as bullying or mental health sensitively and encouraging essential life skills development.
- Engage actively in professional development activities to stay informed of curriculum updates and pedagogical best practices.
- Act as a role model and ambassador of the school’s mission and values, both in and outside scheduled work hours.
- Adhere strictly to safeguarding, health, safety, and student welfare policies and procedures.
- Incorporate Qatari cultural, ethical values, and MOE guidelines consistently in teaching and school activities.
- Participate and contribute to school events, extracurricular activities, and staff meetings to enrich school community engagement.
Additional Information
Teachers are expected to utilize the school portal and communication platforms effectively to maintain open lines of communication and resource sharing with all relevant stakeholders. They must also review and promptly report any curriculum content conflicting with cultural or ethical standards to management. Adherence to deadlines and professional standards is mandatory, alongside active involvement in quality assurance and continuous performance improvement.
