Role Overview
We are searching for a seasoned Energy Trading Manager to lead trading strategies, market operations, portfolio management, and commercial projects. This role involves directing market analysis, trading processes, risk control, contract management, and teamwork to maximize profits, efficiency, and regulatory adherence within complex energy markets.
Key Duties
- Formulate and execute energy trading plans, market frameworks, and commercial tactics aligned with company goals and dynamic markets.
- Oversee trading activities spanning electricity, natural gas, renewables, commodities, and related products.
- Continuously assess market conditions, pricing trends, supply-demand shifts, regulations, and geopolitical factors to inform trading choices.
- Collaborate across multiple departments including Commercial Strategy, Risk Management, Finance, Operations, Renewable Energy, Regulatory Affairs, Analytics, and Executive Leadership.
- Manage trading portfolios, contracts, risk hedging, and revenue optimization efforts.
- Perform detailed market, price, fundamental, and technical analysis along with scenario and opportunity evaluations.
- Develop and implement short and long-term strategies balancing commercial risks and volatile markets.
- Engage with suppliers, utilities, brokers, counterparties, and exchanges to maintain strong partnerships.
- Lead contract negotiations including PPAs and trading agreements.
- Establish governance policies focusing on trading, risk, compliance, reporting, and operational standards.
- Track KPIs such as trading returns, portfolio metrics, risk-adjusted performance, and cost effectiveness.
- Conduct periodic market and performance reviews to drive improvement.
- Ensure compliance with UAE and international energy and trading regulations and standards.
- Manage budgets, trading platforms, data providers, tools, brokers, consultants, and commercial partnerships.
- Champion digital innovations like AI-driven forecasting, algorithmic analytics, predictive pricing, automated risk monitoring, and BI solutions.
- Utilize systems including ETRM, Allegro, Endur, Openlink, SAP, Oracle, Python, R, SQL, Bloomberg, Power BI, Tableau, and energy analytics technologies for optimal decision-making.
- Prepare executive-level reports, dashboards, market outlooks, risk evaluations, and strategic advice.
- Lead and mentor teams of traders, analysts, and specialists fostering a performance-driven, innovative, and collaborative culture.
Essential Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Energy Management, Economics, Finance, Engineering, Business, Mathematics, Statistics, or similar.
- Advanced degrees (Master's or MBA) in Energy Economics, Finance, Business Administration, Quantitative Finance, or related are advantageous.
- Certifications such as ERP, FRM, CFA, Commodity Trading certifications, PMP, or equivalents preferred.
- At least 5 years' experience in energy or commodity trading, power markets, risk management or related sectors.
- Minimum 2 years managing teams, portfolios, or complex energy trading strategies preferred.
- Comprehensive knowledge of energy markets, derivatives, risk management, pricing models, contracts, and regulations.
- Experience with major ETRM systems and tools: Allegro, Endur, Openlink, SAP, Oracle, Bloomberg, Python, R, SQL, Power BI, Tableau, and market analytics.
- Familiar with AI-driven trading technologies, algorithmic methodologies, smart grids, and renewable energy solutions.
- Excellent leadership, communication, negotiation, stakeholder liaison, analytical, financial modeling, project management, budgeting, and problem-solving skills.
- Capable of managing multiple initiatives while balancing risk, profitability, compliance, budgets, and deadlines.
- Effective in remote settings, coordinating diverse teams, regulators, executives, and partners globally, with occasional travel for essential meetings.
