Job description

Position Overview

The Eligibility Officer is responsible for determining the acceptance or rejection of workers' compensation claims and appropriately transitioning approved claims to Case Managers for continued oversight. This role entails calculating Pre-Injury Average Weekly Earnings (PIAWE), providing explanations to Dispute Resolution Managers regarding original decisions, and identifying opportunities for claim recovery. Success depends on strong technical knowledge of legislation, analytical skills, and effective communication to meet business and WorkSafe objectives.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assess initial claims for eligibility and make informed decisions on acceptance or rejection.
  • Transition claims to designated Case Managers for further management.
  • Calculate PIAWE accurately according to guidelines.
  • Communicate decision rationale to Dispute Resolution Managers.
  • Identify potential recovery avenues for claims.

Required Skills and Experience

  • At least 2 years of experience in initial claims assessment or 1 year in a paralegal/legal assistant role.
  • Strong knowledge of the Workplace Injury Rehabilitation & Compensation Act 2013 and related regulations, or possession of a legal qualification.
  • Familiarity with the WorkCover scheme.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, Outlook).
  • Intermediate to advanced experience with ACCtion, Novus, or comparable case management systems.
  • Ability to adapt to changing environments and regulations.
  • Demonstrates care for others, adherence to rules, and strong ethical standards.
