About the Role

Join one of Canada’s top national law firms as an eDiscovery Case Manager based in Calgary. This role is ideal for a tech-savvy, highly organized eDiscovery expert responsible for managing the entire electronic discovery process in complex legal, investigative, and compliance contexts. You will act as the main conduit among legal teams, IT specialists, and external providers, overseeing the identification, preservation, collection, processing, review, and production of electronically stored information, all while ensuring defensibility, efficiency, and cost-effectiveness.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Oversee every phase of the eDiscovery lifecycle including identification, preservation, collection, processing, review, analysis, and production of electronic data.
  • Serve as the central point of contact between legal teams, technology experts, and external vendors to facilitate transparent project communications.
  • Develop and monitor project schedules, budgets, and workflows to ensure accurate, timely, and scoped deliverables.
  • Collaborate with review managers to meet document review targets and deadlines.
  • Promote compliance with eDiscovery best practices, defensible procedures, and relevant legal regulations.
  • Provide regular briefings to legal teams and clients regarding project progression, milestones, risks, and remedial recommendations.
  • Manage technical facets including data collection, executing Boolean searches, managing databases, and document production.
  • Operate and manage document processing and production via Relativity and other review platforms.
  • Offer advice on defensible data-collection procedures and perform on-site data collection when necessary.
  • Troubleshoot technical challenges related to eDiscovery tools and workflows.
  • Create and maintain thorough documentation covering workflows, protocols, and processes.
  • Collaborate closely with lawyers and clients to tailor eDiscovery solutions based on matter-specific needs.
  • Conduct custodian interviews to uncover relevant documents and data sources.
  • Provide practical guidance on workflows, methodologies, emerging technologies, and cost mitigation strategies.
  • Explain complex technical topics to non-technical stakeholders clearly.
  • Support and oversee document review and coding efforts ensuring consistency and precision.
  • Generate analytic reports to assist legal strategy formulation.
  • Engage in quality-control activities to uphold the integrity and accuracy of document production.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Diploma in Information Technology or a closely related field from a community college.
  • At least three years of relevant experience as an eDiscovery Analyst, eDiscovery Case Manager, or similar role.
  • Equivalent combinations of education, training, and experience will be considered.
  • Proficient expertise in Relativity and other document review platforms.
  • Advanced capabilities in Microsoft Excel, including pivot tables, complex formulas, and macros.
  • Experience with SQL, Python, or similar programming/scripting languages is advantageous.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of eDiscovery standards, defensible best practices, and regulatory requirements.
  • Strong technical troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
  • Exceptional organizational and project-management abilities with capacity to manage various priorities under tight timelines.
  • High attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Capability to collaborate with clients, legal teams, IT personnel, and vendors effectively.
