Disability Support Specialist

About the Role

We are seeking compassionate and patient Disability Support Specialists who bring kindness and a positive attitude to help individuals with daily living and social engagement. Our organization is a registered NDIS provider, focusing on high-intensity care, complex support needs, and mental health assistance.

Key Responsibilities

The role involves providing one-on-one assistance to participants in their homes and communities. Responsibilities include helping with household tasks, personal care such as cooking and companionship, and supporting outings like coffee trips, walks, medical appointments, and preferred activities. Support may involve high-intensity care such as bowel and catheter management, PEG feeding, NGT and stoma care. All required training for these specialized supports will be provided.

Work Environment and Schedule

Shift lengths vary from a minimum of 2 hours to full support days, allowing for flexibility and meaningful relationships with participants rather than rushed visits. Work locations cover areas including Maitland, Newcastle, and Lake Macquarie.

Participant Demographics

• Children and young people – assisting with daily routines, activities, skill development, and social excursions.
• Mature adults – offering practical assistance, companionship, and support for staying independent at home and in the community.

Requirements and Qualifications

While experience is valued, the most important qualities are dependability, compassion, and the ability to work independently in someone’s home. Candidates must hold a drivers licence and have access to a reliable vehicle. You need either current or willingness to obtain NDIS clearance, a Working with Children Check, and certification in First Aid and CPR.
