Job Purpose
The Director of Portfolio Management will report to the Chief Technology Officer (CTO) and is responsible for guiding the planning, prioritization, and financial oversight of cross-technology work. This position brings structure and rhythm to how product and platform teams sequence, fund, and plan their work by translating strategy into cohesive, dependency-aware roadmaps and executable plans.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and manage end-to-end processes for creating connected roadmaps, prioritizing workloads, and overseeing investment to maximize value.
- Identify and coordinate resolution of cross-team dependencies, risks, and resource constraints.
- Organize recurring planning events and drive structured planning cycles with clear objectives, milestones, and timelines across quarterly and multi-year horizons.
- Handle the annual budgeting process in collaboration with Finance and technology leaders, ensuring budgets align with strategic priorities and actively tracking variances and forecasts.
- Facilitate executive committee meetings and portfolio governance sessions to align strategic priorities, decision-making, and trade-offs.
- Serve as the chief of staff to the CTO by managing leadership priorities, preparing key communications and presentations, and leading key cross-functional initiatives.
- Drive continuous improvement by establishing portfolio management best practices, tools, and delivery disciplines, while promoting transparency and accountability.
Success Metrics
- Consistent and reliable planning and delivery against defined quarterly and long-term commitments.
- Visibility and management of cross-team dependencies and scheduling.
- Accurate financial discipline including budget management and variance tracking.
- Effective and timely executive decision-making and prioritization.
- Well-established cadence for planning and governance processes.
- Building trust and confidence among executives and teams through transparent communications.
Required Skills and Knowledge
- Proven leadership in portfolio, program, and PMO management across complex, multi-team environments.
- Expertise in strategic planning, facilitation, structured planning events, and multi-year roadmapping.
- Experience managing financial budgets, including annual planning and tracking budget versus actuals.
- Skill in influencing and orchestrating cross-functional teams without formal authority.
- Strong capabilities in managing dependencies, risks, and capacity across teams.
- Advanced executive communication skills for clear synthesis of complex information into presentations and recommendations.
- Exceptional organizational skills combined with discretion and diplomacy at executive levels.
- Proficiency in data-driven decision support and usage of roadmap, planning, and reporting tools.
Preferred Experience and Education
- Bachelor's degree in a related field or equivalent experience; an MBA or advanced degree is advantageous.
- At least 10 years' experience in portfolio or program management, technology strategy, PMO leadership, or technology operations.
- Previous experience as chief of staff or senior advisor to technology or business executives is strongly preferred.
- Track record of successfully building connected roadmaps and leading structured planning.
- Hands-on experience owning or leading technology budgeting processes.
- Strong knowledge of product operating models and portfolio management methodologies.
- Experience in hospitality, travel, retail, or enterprise technology sectors is a plus.
Supervisory Responsibilities
- Lead portfolio management or PMO teams as applicable.
- Influence product and platform teams through leadership and governance processes.
- Participate in hiring, performance evaluations, and team development decisions.
- Manage cross-functional planning, budgeting, and delivery coordination.
Work Location and Schedule
This hybrid role requires in-office presence on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays at the Global Operations Center located at 20400 N 29th Avenue, Phoenix, Arizona 85027. Remote work is allowed on Tuesdays and Thursdays, offering a balance of collaboration and flexibility to support work-life balance. Note that this role is not eligible for immigration sponsorship.
